I've had people asking to see pictures of my hair now/what it looks like now after 5 years on treatments. Started on finasteride at 20 years old. Been on dutasteride a little over a year now. Am 25 now. My hair has significantly declined since starting treatments, and the most alarming is the loss in the back and sides since starting dutasteride. I don't have good before photos to show but I have posted some in the past. I had minimal hair loss. No crown thinning, just hairline was beginning to recede but had great density still at the time I started treatments. Things went downhill quickly. I really don't see much of a point of posting these, but just want to show that dutasteride isn't an all cure.

Also hair loss isn't aggressive in my family, and I am the only one to lose hair this young, and both my brothers have no hair loss (older and younger). What is weird to me is that I still have no crown loss (some thinning though) but thinning everywhere else and nape area is starting to tank. If you look at the second picture you can see my crown actually isn't bad off at all, and towards the back away from my nape and a ways past my crown is still decently thick. The worst area is the front half of my scalp especially as you get closer to the hairline/forelock. Before dutasteride I had no nape hair loss whatsoever. Really just don't give a sh*t as much anymore as I can see nothing I do is going to help my hair, but just so everyone can see AR inhibitors don't work for everyone.

And I got my finasteride and get my dutasteride (take .5mg daily) from Walgreens and have scripts from dermatologists so they're legit.

And I am not going to quit dutasteride, as things could technically be worse and it feels like the only little bit of hope I really have to keep my hair. And I plan on getting my haircut shorter. Keeping it longer looks like sh*t, just too thin at this point.

Also am a non-responder to minoxidil. Have tried for years.

And I can grow close to no facial hair, actually less than before ar inhibitors but never could grow much, and I have very little bodyhair.

Considering the hair is wet I think it looks good.

Besides the nape and the front 1/3 are you thinning anywhere else? If not, a transplant is still an option. As you know, for some AA's works great for the crown area.

You can try adding spironolactone along with the dutasteride, which has been shown to regrow hair significantly.

Honestly I can make my hair look kinda okay if its not wet, but the front is just too thin at this point. But yeah the nape area took a hit, so did the sides. But honestly after 5 years of having it progessing it is just something I just think about less than I used to. It still is progressing and my hair is thinner all over. Used to be unreal how thick my hair was before hair loss. Used to get comments on my hair literally all the time and it was usually the first thing girls would mention, but thats obviously no more. Hair transplant probably wont be an option for me. More so posting this because for some reason when you post on here saying you're losing hair on dutasteride, no one seems to believe it without photos. Just wanna show dutasteride is not an all cure, and tbh I am not sure DHT is really the main cause for my hair loss, think it might be testosterone related and that is something I am not willing to sacrifice.

Not sacrificing my testosterone for hair. I am very into fitness/weight lifting. My lifting has actually improved on dutasteride. I can tell you with certainty that won't be the case for spironolactone.

Have you had any sexual sides on dutasteride? Are you still losing the same amount of hairs during showers and during the day as before dutasteride? Is your dad bald?

Dad isn't completely bald but he has lost a lot of hair, more than me and has a bald spot in the back as well, but hes 60 so almost everyone has hair loss at that point.

Idk how much hair im losing tbh. I am definitely losing less than I was 4-5 years ago, but I had so so much more hair back then that it just isn't comparable at all. There isn't nearly as much hair to lose. Since starting dutasteride I am not sure if the rate of loss increased, but I definitely started losing in the nape area which I wasn't before, but may be unrelated to the dutasteride.

No side effects I am aware of whatsoever. May have had slight decrease in libido on finasteride. Dutasteride, not really noticing anything though. I actually initially had a crazy increase in sex drive like 3 weeks after starting duta that lasted a couple months. I am pretty sure this wasn't in my head either, as it was significantly increased and felt like I was on v**** during sex.

Yeah if dutasteride isnt working I guess there is no hope. Maybe you can try ru58841 if anything. Your dad prob had no hairloss at your age right?

He did not. He starting thinning in his late 30s, and it went pretty slow until his early 50s it picked up. His pattern was different though as well. His started with crown loss, so not really sure if I inherited this one from him. My mom's side they all had like full heads into their 50s tho, so I have no idea where I got this from.

And I would try RU, just seems like too much of a hassle for me. If I knew it was going to work I would go for it, but really not hopeful for RU when duta, which is shown to be much more effective, isn't even stopping my hair loss.

I mean, your last option is probably to just shave it all off and rock the bald look. Although, your hair doesn't look that bad; when it's dry it probably looks better, and you can use products which can give an illusion of thicker hair.

Eh I look terrible bald. Not a good head shape, and baby face. It still looks alright when dry and using product, so yeah thats what I am doing for now. Dealing with it day by day. Once it gets bad enough will see what I have to do.
