I finally went to this derm and after relentlessly educating the guy about proscar and how its really the same thing as propecia he wrote me a prescription. However, when I was already out of his office I looked at the prescription note and all it said was proscar 4 mg 1/4. I don't know what I should do I told the guy it was 5 mg finasteride and you have to cut it down into quarters. Do you guys think I should change the 4 mg to a 5 mg or does it matter?

Just take it to the pharmacy and see if they will fill it, if they won't then ring his office and tell him he made a mistake and can he leave a new prescription for you to pick up.

It shouldn't be necessary for you to see him again.

why would it matter if it is 4mg or 5 mg if you are going to split it into quarters. There is no difference between splitting it into fifths or splitting it into quarters. Instead of 1.25 mgs, you will be taking 1 mg. No biggy, at least that is what my derm and my doctor told me

Proscar doesn't come in 4mg as far as I know - only 5mg. So the pharmacist will probably notice its a mistake and call the Doctor.

ps: a word of advice, find another derm

Yea, thats what I was thinking. I guess I'll just change the 4 to a 5

Don’t alter the prescription because the pharmacy might not fill it then! Just take it to the pharmacy & let them do what they have to. Usually they just call up the physician & ask to correct it. If they are busy they may not even do that.
