hey im an 18 year old guy and have had a receding hairline for about 2 years now. I went on finasteride about 2 months back but got side effects really bad. i was wondering is there any chance of keeping my hair without finasteride for a sustained period of time, im currently using regaine foam 5% if i combined that with nizoral could i sustain or regrow some hair? has anyone had success without finasteride?

If we could fight hair loss without finasteride I think every guy on here would not be taking it and all the talk would be whatever that other thing was. If someone knows of such a proven thing I am open to listen because I would also like to keep my hair without risks of finasteride.

Same here as you bro... I'm curious though, how long have you been off of Propecia and have the sides subsided (assuming libido issues)?

I'm also only using Rogaine Foam and Nizoral and am actively searching for anything I can supplement to it! I know I gotta get the DHT thing under control... btw, you're probably about to get a variety of opinions, which is good though..

If you cant use finasteride look into experimental and unproven DHT blockers. Some protection is better than none.

Do you know of any products off-hand to look in to?

Would like to know also about anyones experiences with spironolactone... And, sorry to say, but yes, I was off of Propecia for a few months then back on and sides were an issue. Strangely, it seems that they actually got worse when I discontinued.. That's why I asked you how long you've been off it and if the sides have subsided.

Why do you say that? If these people are negatively affected by the drug and their lives are changed for the worse, or even suffering from it, they are not doing anything wrong coming together to help each other...

I mean, it's not just that forum... it seems like there's been about 10 people posting on THIS forum just today regarding sides. Yes, granted, including myself, but it's just because I'm looking for help or advice too.

OP, sorry to quote all your replies as if it was my own thread but you're question/ problem is similar to mine... Hope you find some good information anyway!

yer wheredahair i used 1 mg of finasteride combined with 1 mg of minoxidil tablets put together in a pharmacy i used them for about 12 days. i started to get ball ache and it was harder to get an erection i also started to get palputations posibly from oral minoxidil and anxiety attacks so i dropped the medication. after that i got better after about 3 days and suddenly all my side came back and my penis literaly didnt work and it felt disconected. After about 3 weeks it got better again and sides came back some times but in less intencity and duration until i got 100% better. However these sides came as i was stessing out constatly and could only sleep for about 4 hours a night and i think as i calmed myself down the side effects eventualy tapered off. But if the sides were stress related how could they posibly be this intense? so my advice to you is to remain as calm as you possibly can and keep healthy i noticed sides got worse after a big night of drinking. My dermatoligst partly calmed me down as he said that he belives there is no way sides could be permanent in his understanding of the med and he is a leading authoriy on hairloss his name was Dr shnider in melbourne australia and is also a proffesor on hairloss, not sure if i spelt shnider correcly.

I think finasteride is overwhelmingly safe but any derm or Doctor that says permanent sides are impossible is flat out wrong. How can anyone say for sure sides of a drug changing many things no one understands can never be permanent? Maybe current studies have not shown that yet but it could take 50 years to thoroughly study every aspect of every possible thing a drug affects.

yes but from his current understanding of the drug he cannot see how it is possible and said that he has treated 1000s of patient and never had someone with permanent sides. However i also believe that permancy is possible because of the stories i have heard from it but also believe that the percentage that have permanent effects is a subset of a subset. Think about it propecia help has mabye 1000 members and of these people a select few are the ones who are making the most noise on that site if you have ever been on it. i thought my sides were permanent and am so happy that they are not.

well he didnt say imposible sorry he said based on his extensive understanding he dosnt see how effects could be permanent and says he has treated 1000s of patients with none reporting permanent sides. i do believe that it is possible their are permanent side effects based on the stories on propecia help. but i also believe the sides permanent sides to only ocur in a subset of a subset of people think about it there is about 1000 members on propecia help and the ones making all the noise are a select few on that site.

Why do you say that?

Why? Read post number three. The guy isnt suffering sides at all. But he will lose his hair now anyway. And from the sounds of him I dont think he will cope with it too well. Propeciahelp.com destroys another young impressionable persons life.

I don't know what you're getting out of post number three.. but go back and check OP's original post number one:

I'm not trying to be a smartass about it all so please don't take it that way. But all I'm saying man is they're not destroying anyones life. But, the drug did do that to them.

I know what he said. Its right there where he also says he got scared after *fanatically* reading propeciahelp and that he doesnt know if the sides were in his head or not.

Im sorry if you cant read between the lines. Some of you guys need more life/people experience, then youll understand. Most people, most of the time, talk BS and make terrible life decisions based on emotion.

If propecia is not an option for you then I think its best to just accept male pattern baldness and forget about it because you have no real chance at stopping it right now. Maybe in future with something like CB 03 01 it will then be possible but that is like 5 years from now.
