I've been battling my hairloss diligently with minoxidil(almost a yr) and propecia (7months). Ever since I started propecia I developed a scalp itch that i NEVER had. Is it from the propecia or is it a coincidence? I just dont know. I've also had sheds. But, Im ok with the sheds as i see this as an occurrence that happens to most finasteride users. I've actually been more than ok since this is a good sign that im a finasteride-responder. What im not thrilled about is that by examining the hairs I shed, the hairs are thick at the tips and thins out as it gets to the roots. It also loses color and it looks more lifeless. I know I am not falsely scrutinizing because it is an extremely obvious observation. What I worry about is that this has NEVER happend before using finasteride. I dont want to think that finasteride has anything to do with these 2 things but the timing is impeccable. Developing a constant itch and seeing shedded hair have their life stripped from them just seems at the very least a crazy coincidence.

I dont want to be fear-mongering, as i do believe finasteride is a very effective drug for most people. I've seen great results on this forum, and that's why i decided to start in the first place. However, I am scared that I am one of the few unfortunate people that finasteride has negatively impacted. :(

From what I've read, finasteride either dramatically improves your situation (very lucky) or it stabalizes your situation (most people), it shouldn't make things worse!

For the scalp itch I'd throw in a copper pep spray!

Too bad you did not check to see if there is tapering before you started finasteride, so you could see if the tapering sped up or slowed. Could you upload a picture of these hairs? I'm sure some people would find them interesting. And you could compare future hairs to this later.

Has anyone else going through their first shed noticed a reverse tapering like this guy discribed?
