Extremely rapid shedding, no prior hair loss problems

A few weeks ago my wife noticed a bunch (10-15) hairs on my white T-shirt. I ran my fingers through my hair, pinching slightly, and was able to pull out several (4-6) hairs. Never in my life have I ever experienced this. Now, I'm shedding like crazy, finding hairs in the shower and sink, where I've never seen them before. I've always had extremely thick hair, so this was a shock.

I'm 34, not stressed (that I know of ;), and have no scalp health issues that the doctor could see (general practitioner). I'm waiting for blood work back just to ensure there are no other issues (like a thyroid problem).

Anyway, I seriously feel like this is getting noticeably worse every day. I could barely notice the thinning a few weeks ago, and now I'm getting close to where you can see scalp even after styling the hair. I feel like I'm going to be bald in a week or two.

Anyway, apparently the men in the Mothers side of my family had male pattern baldness. I know that means little, but there it is.

One thing I should mention, is that I was taking 10mg of Adderall twice a day for the previous 6 months. I stopped taking it once I noticed the shedding.

My question is, is it typical for alopecia to come on so suddenly and dramatically?

Relax, probably it is only temporal, do you lost hair over all scalp? common baldness only affects at certains hairs.
BTW Adderall (amphetamine and dextroamphetamine is not good for hair.

I am able to pull hair out from everywhere, but not as bad, and it certainly doesn't seem as thin. I stopped the adderall. Perhaps that was it. I would have thought though I would have noticed it much earlier.

I was taking it for mild anxiety. My nutrition suffered considerably on it, as it really suppresses your appetite. I didn't like this, since it made it tough to have energy for working out (I do crossfit). I made an appt with a dermatologist, we'll see what they say.
