Sorry, Tomsmith. My popup killer kills the PM alert boxes and I've been too lazy to add HairLossTalk.com to my accept list. Anyways, you ask good questions so I decided to answer publically. Your questions and my answers:
1. What applicator do you use to apply minoxidil to the hairline? I have been using the dauber that comes with UK minoxidil (large squeezy bulb) for over a year with poor results. Many potential hairs that seem to need something extra to surface. Many say they use the dropper, but this was clearly not designed for the hairline and I find it impossible.
I use the dropper. Rogaine used to offer a dropper, but since switched to a dauber which I thought sucked. Dr Lee's droppers are excellent, they have a small diameter and tapered mouth, resulting in excellent dosage and droplet control. It takes a bit longer to apply the full 1ml, or 1.25ml in my case, but the small droplet size results in less drippage. Sprayers suck, they only turned my hair powdery white from all the minoxidil it sprayed into my hair, instead of onto the scalp where it belongs.
2. Would you say that you were a straight receeder?
First off, I am definitely straight and have no sexual intentions towards men. As for my hairloss, yes, I am a receeder. I have no 'bald spot' nor diffuse thinning on the crown, I am only fighting a receeding hairline.
3. Has anything that you have added other than the big 3 made a significant difference to your hairline?
Yes. Nizoral is key. Before treatment, I always had an itchy scalp. Nizoral has gotten rid of the itch, and helped quell some initial flaking I got from the minoxidil. I'm a nizoral believer. Additionally, I am also a spironolactone believer too, I quit it and shed. Maintained my hairline, but lost some haircount and thickness in my existing yet thinning hair area. Started spironolactone again about 2 months ago, and I don't know how to describe the feeling other than saying that spironolactone for some reason just appeals to my scalp and hair.
Hope this helps!! Good luck in your regimen and your battle.
