I pretty much have thick hair, except for the fact that I have receded drastically, but behind the receding line it grows thick, now i could take propecia and im seeing a Doctor tomorrow to get maybe prescriptions but the thing is, ive grown my hair out and seen first hand that since it's receded like this it doesnt look good to have long hair, and theres noway anything i try could bring down my hairline at best it could fill in and stop it further but its like the damage is already done. i could have elvis hair but if its from behind the receding line it just looks awful, i wish i had a crown spot and a low hairline instead because all treatments are based to help the further back it is, in fact is it worth the side effects to try and combat this?
Even if my hair grew it wouldnt matter--heres why

How old are you? Got any pics?
You never know until you try. There have been guys here (including me) that have regrown at their temples and hairline. On the remote chance you have bad side effects they should go away when you stop.
How far back is your hairline? Like John Pankow (cousin Ira) from "Mad About You" or William Fichtner from "Invasion"?

Hey, I'm 22 and it all started about a year ago so the loss is still new to me, thats why I want to start now if Im going to. It's a twosided coin anyway cause even if I do start at the root of the problem since its beginning so early in age I shiver at what to expect by 30 or 40

Right now it sort of looks like James Wood's hair except his looks slicker than mine but I think thats just cause I go to supercuts. Also mine is a little more transparent on the front but receding wise its sort like that. And he's getting on in years and I'm only 22 so yeah it sucks.
Tommorow I'm seeing the Doctor to get this thing going.
As far as side effects such as a lowering sperm count or weaker sexual drive, is it as serious as having trouble producing a child and is it a side effect thats soley concurrent when taking the medicine or is it a long term lasting effect afterwardsregardless if I continue treatment or not.

I wouldn't take it if I didn't think it was safe. I don't know about Propecia's effects on having children.

Plenty of guys have fathered children while taking Propecia. Sperm count is reduced on Propecia but not by a "clinically significant" level (i.e. not by >30%). It bounces back to baseline after you discontinue treatment. Propecia's half-life is short so after you stop taking the drug there are usually no long-lasting effects afterwards.

First up the 'male breast thing' (gyno) is very rare. In the Propecia trial, there was no significant difference between the incidence in the placebo group and the treatment group. Gyno may disappear when treatment is stopped. Have a look at this study. Some gyno can be treated through use of estrogen blockers. The most serious cases require surgery, but as I said these are VERY rare.

Besides surgery there are few things you can do about a high hairline. If you grow your hair out try using toppik or a similiar product for a fuller look.
Talk to a barber about different styles that can hide your recession. Try the caesar look.
And most important, get on propecia. If you are one of the rare individuals who encounters side effects, discontinue the product and your body will adjust getting rid of the negativity you endured.
