I've been a lurker now for quite some time reading messages and what not, but I wanted to take an opportunity to post my story and tell you about my visit to the Endo today...

Well, I noticed thinning throughout my hair in a diffuse pattern since I was about 19 years old or so, nothing too terrible, but it woke me up some. About 20 or 21 I thought I would give propecia a try, went to my dermatologist, whom was bald lol oh the irony and gave a look at my head very quickly said hmmm, anyone in your family bald? I replied yea, grandfather and his brothers all NW5, but moms side not too much baldness so he said alright you came for propecia here you go...wrote me a script. Little did I know it would rack me 60 dollars a month! I bit the bullet and went on for about four years taking propecia off and on which some success...I wouldnt say I regrew my hair but maintained in my opinion. I threw in Minoxidil about 3 years ago and I don't think it's done much, but out of fear of losing everything I still use it. I know this probably doesn't sound like the smartest thing, but what else should I use instead? Oh btw I am now 27 years old and still have diffuse thinning. I have kind of a windows peak type hair line which could be nice if only these damn drugs would grow something! I did stop propecia for the most part about a year ago and realized probably not a good idea, I stopped because the cost and then discovered inhouse. Started buying Finpecia from there and have been using it consistently now for almost 6 months. Do you think I can thicken things back up again by restarting? I also bought some Tricomen and hairmax laser comb to supplement the Propecia and minoxidil...I know some of you are divided on the laser comb, but I think of it as an additional tool in my pouch. We will see how it goes. Anyways onto my story about the Endo today...

So I go into this Endo in our area because I wanted him to run blood work on me to check all my hormones and see where I am at, what's low what's high where I may be deficient. He went on to tell me that he'd like to see me off Propecia, that it messes with ones hormones and I should look for topical alternatives versus putting something inside me. He said you don't need to take a pill for hair loss, that topicals will stop balding because DHT is in the scalp. Now, I don't know if he is right or wrong, but stopping propecia and going strictly topical seems like maybe it could cause me to lose my hair faster. What do you think, take the endo's advice stop propecia go strictly topical? I just can't do it yet even if he believes this is the best route. He is generalizing in his statements now, he wasn't specifically tailoring this theory towards me because we haven't even got my blood work back yet to see where my levels are at, but I was curious what you all thought? This doctor is from India. Seems genuinely nice, but I don't know if he has expert knowledge on hairloss. He seems more like a herbalist endo than anything....Thanks for your time

Is he balding or treating his hairloss? If so ask him what he is using...don't be nervous, doctors are human as well. If he says no then ask him what topicals he thinks you should be using?
