Early stages of male pattern baldness or Telogen Effluvium? (Please help!)

I'm having a difficult time figuring out what's wrong with my hair. I'm 25, and keep in mind, I've always had thick hair. I first started noticing thinning on the crown back in november.

Since then, the thinning has gotten worse, much worse. I can see my scalp very clearly through out my head with my usual 1-2 inch hair cut. Trust me, it's significantly more noticeable than usual. As days go by, it seems I'm seeing more and more of my scalp through the front of my head in the mirror.

My hair line in the front is still good, it's not disappearing. It's just major crown thinning. At this rate, I'll have the horseshoe cut before Christmas. lol

The strange part is... I'm not having any major shedding. Just normal 20-60 hairs a days. .. It just seems no new hair is growing, or the new hair is too thin.

I would assume it's Telogen Effluvium, but all my major trauma was November-December 2009. My grandfather died in my arms, I broke up with my gf, and my best friend betrayed me all in the same 2 months! but it was 1 year after that I noticed changes to my hair.. so, I'm not sure that's the reason...

Doesn't Telogen Effluvium end after a few months, and hair starts to restore? Well, it's been 4 months for me, and it seems I'm still on the decline... I just don't wanna be sold on having Telogen Effluvium, and it's not. Maybe chronic Telogen Effluvium? (PS I've had tongue depression before)

I can post pics if necessary... thanks!

All throughout the crown. Front, middle, and back.

I have no health problems, and there's no history of male pattern baldness in my immediate family. My great grandpa on my mom's side had the Hulk Hogan style male pattern baldness, but that started at age 40+... My uncle on my father's side had slight male pattern baldness, this started at 33+, and is slow in progression... That's the only 2 cases I can think of in my immediate family. Perhaps my father's dad, but he died when I was too young.

Mine thinning seems very sudden, coming too young, and progressing quick. It doesn't make sense I have male pattern baldness, but also I'm not sure there's a reason I have Telogen Effluvium. I accept whichever it is, and I'm ready to tackle the problem now before it gets out of hand.

Thanks for the reply!
