For those of you using dutasteride, how often do you take it. For the past three weeks I've been taking it once a week to see if I can lower my dosing. So far no real changes to speak of yet. However, dutasteride does have a long half life so I'm sure alot of it is still in my system. Anyone else doing this?

Wow, do you experience any sides from that amount of dutasteride everyday? Is it working for you?

"3 or 4" at bedtime for 6 weeks now... No side-effects but no regrowth. Plan to cut back to 2 a day after 6 months total. With the long half life I'm sure I could take them less frequently, however I feel better about taking it every day...

Hmm.... I think one Avodart a week is near the BARE MINIMUM for having a beneficial effect on your hair.

When you say "take them less frequently", you mean like taking 9 or 12 capsules once every three days, instead of 3 or 4 capsules every day?

I meant that it would be reasonable to take more pills less frequently (for me 9 or 12 each 3 days)... given the long half life. But its easier for me to try to remember daily pills. And, that seems like a lot of pills to swallow in one day.

I personally plan a lower daily dose (.5 mg two a day) at the 6 month mark. I really dont know what to do long term, as those studies havent been done. At six months going down to two a day will save a lot of money and it will be another 4-6 months before serum levels drift down. Also, I think I read that the phase III Avodart trials are said to have been planned as 2.5 mg/day for 6 months then .5 mg/day. I dont know WHY they planned that dose decrease at 6 months (maybe GSK cant afford the higher dose either? : ) or what they would have recommended after the 1 year mark, but I would like to take less and pay less (unless Im getting werewolf results, in which case Ill stay on the 2.5 mg : ). I could guess that the dosing was to maximize regrowth initially, if possible, then reduce to a maintenence dosage???

Oh, I think it's obvious: they're just as nervous about such large, sustained doses as everyone else!

The reason I want to experiment with lower does is because I've had excellent result with taking it two to three times a week. Maintance and actual regrowth at hairline, not vellus but terminal hairs that I've watched grow and then get assimilated into my hairline...amazing, almost surreal. But yes, once a week is the bare minimum, so I'm just gonna try and see if it will still work, if not I'm gonna go back to twice a week.
