I have been battling hairline loss ever since I was about 14 years old. Being 18 now and a senior in high school, my hairline as taken a toll on my self esteem. Over the past 2 years I have been losing more and more hair from my hairline. Although it has slowed down a bit, I was wondering what my best chance of regrowing hair would be, finasteride or dutasteride. I have no crown loss whatsoever. I have a 23 year old brother, and his hairline has nearly no recession. I also have a 28 year old brother who is just now only starting to experience crown loss. My dad however has bad hair, probably around a NW5A. I avidly workout and play sports just about everyday. I am just now starting to take minoxidil liquid, applying it to my hairline while using Nizoral twice a week. I have been taking daily vitamins, biotin, and fish oil ever since I was about 16. I am wondering what my best approach is to try and recover some of my hairline no matter what the cost, knowing the side effects of both pills. What do you think I should try?

use whatever you want its a pretty even trade off

dutasteride half millgram daily:

Costs: higher chances of sides, sides would last longer after discontinuing if you get them. price 5 x as much generic vs generic
Benefits: 20% better regrowth, 10% higher chance of maintaining long term vs. finasteride

I would go with dutasteride if I were you as your hair loss is quite aggressive. Im in the same boat except Ive been taking propecia for 10 months which has been a complete waste of time for me, should have taken dutasteride to begin with as my hair loss is also agressive. If you have extensive hair loss at a young age finasteride tends not to be strong enough to help especially at the front which is hardest to treat. dutasteride and RU is the best treatment although the latter is quite expensive and both carry risks of side effects as the effects of long term usage aren't known.
