dutasteride/Dr. Reddy's question

I ordered dutasteride from Inhousepharmacy.com a little over two weeks ago. Upon realizing the stuff was not going to get to me I emailed them and they've sent me a replacement. By the time this sh*t gets to me I'll have been off it for almost a month. Is this going to significantly throw off my the dutasteride in my system? I heard it remains in the blood a long time. Thanks.

If you have been on it a long time (more than a few months) I wouldnt worry about it, due to dutasteride's long half life. You have a good serum level and have been thru the "loading" period. Your levels will drift down slowly but should still be therapeutic after 4 weeks... They were considering either weekly or monthly dosing : ) so you should be ok for a month.

Quote from dr Marty Sawaya (who was involved in the Phase II trial discussions with GSK) " Glaxo probably realized that Dutasteride would face even more challenges, since it was a more potent drug than Propecia, being a dual 5a-Reductase Enzyme Inhibitor, with a longer half-life (stays in the body a long, long time). Would anyone buy a once a week, or once a month pill for an outrageous price like $20 per pill? You say that you would, but would you really?"

Thanks for your thoughts. Any others? (I took it for 3 months before I ran out. Still waiting for next shipment.)

I cant give you stats or graphs, but your DHT levels would def. be on there way up even though dutasteride has a long half life.

You prolly already know this, but you really need to keep taking meds regularly without large breaks like 1 month.

I wouldnt worry too much though, 1 month isnt going to cause much damage if any at all. Just try and make sure you always order in advance.

If you have any propecia around take that until your dutasteride arrives.

At therapeutic concentrations, following repeat dosing of 0.5 mg/day, the slower, linear elimination pathway is dominating and the half-life is approx. 3-5 weeks"

From another site... The elimination half-life of dutasteride is 3-5 weeks, much longer than that of finasteride. Following discontinuation of dutasteride, serum DHT concentrations return to witning 20% of baseline withing 4 months (24).

So, not a quick process (I left my dutasteride in another town this week, but remained calm because of the above... )
