Dutasteride and unprotected sex with woman on the pill

Ive been taking dutasteride for 6 years.

I understand that the drug affects pregnant woman and woman that may become pregnant because it is bad for the development of the baby.

Just got married, my wife takes the pill, and has done for a long time, have had a lot of unprotected sex with her before, she's never got pregnant etc.

I was just thinking though, should I still be using a condom or is the pill sufficient?

I am fairly certain that you are fine to have unprotected sex with her. There was a study done on this (using finasteride) with monkeys. Pregnant monkeys were given doses "60-750 times the semen levels of finasteride in man given orally 5 or 1 mg/day, respectively" in an IV dose. The results were as follows "no abnormalities were observed in either male or female fetuses of mothers given iv doses (8, 80, or 800 ng/day) of finasteride during pregnancy"

So, as long as you're not taking about 1500mg of finasteride a day (don't know what the conversion table for dutasteride is)...you should be just fine However, still make sure that she doesn't mess with your pills. Absorbing them through the skin in a different matter.

finasteride and dutasteride are different things. I recall hearing on this forum awhile back that you actually should not have unprotected sex while on dutasteride because significant levels DO show up in your semen and could affect her hormone balance
