Dutas no longer working

Hi guys, new to this forum and this is my first post. Bit of a back story - my hair started thinning in my mid to late twenties so I decided to take action. I started off using Regiane and eventually propecia, a combination which worked for a few years. I added Nizoral to the mix as my scalp condition has never been great.

When I hit 30 the male pattern baldness kicked up a gear, which I suppose is not uncommon for men at that age. I decided to hit back by switching to Avodart. This worked a treat for about a year and a half and my hair was in great condition - I was even able to grow it out a bit, something which pleased me no end.

About three months ago my hair and scalp condition deteriorated rapidly. It started with a tight, tingly feeling all over my scalp then I noticed that my hair was looking lank and thin.

From there on it has just snowballed and I have experienced scary loss at my temples and crown and I have a more or less constant tight, sore feeling on my scalp. I increased my dosage of dutasteride to 2.5mg daily about two months ago but no better results yet. Maybe to early to tell?

I have been extremely disturbed by this seemingly sudden deterioration. It's affecting my personal and professional life. In three short months I have gone from being a happy, confident person to a self conscious mess. I have taken to wearing a buzz cut, something I would have never done before and have even considered a hair transplant, even though it would put me into debt.

Has anyone else had a similarly rapid deterioration in which Dutas no longer seems to work?

Oh man idk... both Finasterida and Dutasteride have similar results with Dutasteride slightly edging out the competition,

There really isn't much you can do at that point besides Minoxodil or more extreme methods if finasteride or similar meds aren't working for you.

Anyways, good luck... hair loss is the hardest fight there is for most guys as the enemy is basically unknown.

Much respect man for keeping your hair for 10+ years by using propecia.
I advice you keep on dutasteride unless you are experiencing side effects and look into nizoral and definetly starting using RU.
[h=2]Ru 58841 the stuff is powerful and I'm pretty sure going on that and nizoral/dutasteride will keep your hair indefinitely. Make sure to do some research on it.[/h]

thanks, man. ru58841 sounds interesting. however i'm not crazy about the idea of buying an unlicensed chemical compound for crazy prices from some random dude on the internet. the information about it online seems vague and conflicting

Impossible for dutasteride to stop working at these doses.

You're shedding hair, but not losing them.

You can try adding 30-50mg of RU58841. Google how to make RU58841 solution at home. You do not need a 5% solution like is recommended, use whatever volume of solution best covers your scalp with my suggested dosage. Drop your dutasteride back to .5mg daily.

I agree with redstar though I have started to question whether it is even possible to still lose hair while on dutasteride especially at a high dosage this is why I have been considering dropping RU from my regimen (I am on dutasteride as well)

What brand of dutasteride are you using?

Avodart, Dutas, Dutagen? Have you switched to a different brand from what you first started using?

Strange your hair loss would all of a sudden return if nothing has changed. Could possibly be telogen phase syncing and you may just be going through a really bad shed.

Dr. Reddy's Dutas from United Pharmacies, who are legit AFAIK. I started out on Avodart but switched to save money, before this current predicament.

I agree, when it first happened and I upped my dose I expected it to be temporary but it doesn't seem to be improving. I've been prescribed a topical steroid solution called betamethasone to help with the itchy/sore scalp which has brought some relief.

I've never heard of a shed lasting this long.

That's funny because I'm taking Dr Reddy's Dutas same as you (was on finasteride for 9 years before) been on it 10 months now. First 8 months were great, hair thickening, scalp itch gone, felt like the golden years on finasteride. But all of sudden the last 2 months scalp itch came back with a fury and increased hair fall. Feels like I'm not taking anything! This began shortly after I started taking the last batch of Dutas I received from Inhouse. At first I thought this was just a bad shed but now I'm getting this feeling the last batch was a freaking dud. I've ordered a few more strips of Dutas hopefully from a diff batch to see if that's what it was, but soon as I can I'm switching to real Avodart from a prescription. I don't trust the consistency of these Indian made generics.

Ones I'm currently taking would be interested to see if yours are the same...

it would be cheaper just to get a blood test and prove the dutas is real than switching to avodart

I purchase from inhouse so I'm sure it's real been buying Proscar there for years. I'm just suspicious if I got a bad batch of Dutas, don't trust these Indian companies. I saw your post about your blood test when on Dutas which is encouraging. Are you still having good results?

I may give this new batch a go and see if I can get my blood tested as well and decide from there. If money was no object I would switch to Avodart in a heart beat as I can get a prescription no problem but good lord is it expensive!
