Hello, I seem to be having the weirdest hairloss pattern ever. I google image dupa, retrograde alopecia, and any other types of balding patterns. i see balding people everyday on the street, gym, etc and none of them have a pattern like mine. my hairloss is thinning heavily on the sides, thick top with a receding hairline, and a swirly on the back of my head on the upper left, no bald spot. my sideburns also used to be thick and now is starting to thin as you can see.

It just looks like you got a short clipper cut on the sides and scissors on top... Not sure if serious...

The number of hypochondriacs in this forum is too damn high.

That's just it. I DIDN'T get short clipper cut on the sides. The sides u see is supposed to be the same length as the back but it looks like I buzzed it short but I didnt. Also u can see the balding spot above my ear as well as my receding hairline. It's no hypochondria

My sides are so thinned out that the camera flash is reflecting back from my skin. I'm not saying my hairloss is noticeable to the public eye but I thought people on this forum would be able to detect some sort of male pattern baldness pattern

You ppl seriously need to be easier on these guys. Nope this guys hair isn't bad, but he comes here with a serious concern of his so take him seriously. His hair looks good to us, but if he has noticed chances in his hair he knows better. Just because someone is earlier on in the balding process than you doesn't make you entitled to call them a hypochondriac or being mean sarcastic.
It's not like he's claiming to be NW7, he just comes with a concern and seeking advice. Instead of being bitter cause you have less hair either keep your mouth shut or give the guy some advice. Be nice to people. My hair is worse than this guys by much, but I still wanna be nice to him!!

To OP;

Your hair looks great, but if you notice thinning go visit a dermatologist so he/she can diagnose you. If you have male pattern baldness then get on treatments to battle it. Good luck and keep us posted :)

Thank you evilocks....maybe its my fault i didnt mention in the OP that i noticed my thinning when i as 18 and when i was 20 i started minoxidil and finasteride....i am now 24. i think they did a decent job slowing it down but the hairline is still crawling up. ill agree above is a decent picture because ive pretty much mastered the art of concealing my hairloss by keeping my sides short and making my top a "fauxhawk" so it looks more think but here's a picture of my hairline with my hair pushed up 2014-07-01_20.42.14.jpg20140701_203758.jpg

To all the haters...my hairloss is also on the sides of my head....even my sideburns are thinning out cant you see that? look at the second pic and tell me you can't notice the sides thinning out. i wouldnt make an account on a hairloss forum just to get my ego stroked or whatever. unbelievable....ive seen people here with way lower hairlines and thicker hair posting up pictures and they werent called hypochondriacs

Ok now I can see that you DO have male pattern baldness, but your hair still looks great AND you're already on finasteride and minoxidil so what more should we tell you?

I'd say your options are:

1.) Get on dutasteride

or

2.) See a Doctor and get some blood tests done if you TRULY think your hair is thinning on the sides so that you can determine the possible causes.

Hum. Sorry about my comment, it's just that my hair has always looked like this on the sides when it's very short, even as a kid, and I've never been balding on the sides !
It's hard to judge from just one photo I guess ^^"
You do have a tiny hole on the side, though I thought it was because you cut your hair too short in that area. You could run some blood test to check for any deficiency, but it should be temporary if it's not in the male pattern baldness area (under too much stress maybe ?).
Do you scratch your hair on that side?

No problem!

If you are already on finasteride and minoxidil then only dutasteride remains as a possible treatment, unless you wanna try something experimental like Ru (have no experience with this) or perhaps topical spironolactone...

About the sides of the head they do seem thin. But then again a lot of people have naturally thinner hair on the sides of their head without that meaning baldness. But you know your hair best, and if you feel your hair was thicker on the sides before of course that's a concern. Have you noticed any excessive shedding lately, or has it been gradual? Also do you experience scalp pain?

male pattern baldness most often follows the horse shoe pattern with stable back and sides, but there is also something called DUPA (diffuse un patterned alopecia) that is a bit rarer but basically means all over thinning, like in female pattern baldness.

I wouldn't mind the people calling you a hypochondriac because truth is they are bitter you have more hair than them! You have more hair than me also but at least I have enough self-awareness to realise that I once was one of those "hypochondriacs" as they call it, with lots of hair to the naked eye, but I experienced changes in my hair and today I know I was right to be worried. To haters; Baldness is terrible and I understand that one should be grateful while one still has enough hair "socially acceptable", but never forget that you once was one of those people just trying to find out what the f was up with your hair!!

Prevention is key so instead of hating show some respect for these people. Yeah we all wanna have more hair and wish we were below that certain level of Norwood but we once were, and at that time we needed advice just like these people who still have most their hair. Peace out. :)

I started noticing my sides being thin around 15 or 14 because everyone in school spiked their hair the punk rock way, where u spike Ur top, sides, and back like a fireball kind of thing. I had trouble spiking the sides that's how I noticed. The thinning has been gradual I'm convinced that minoxidil and finasteride helped slow it down. I'll probably get my thyroid test taken but I'm pretty sure it's some case of dupa :( by 30 I'll probably have to Bic it
