Dr Mercola says chlorine water is dangerous for health

He says we need to worry about the polutants in our shower water because we get 25 gallons per shower. I say that is dumb since most of the water rinses off before it has time to absorb into the skin. His estimating method is way off.

Then he says inhalation is a bigger risk. The chlorine in the water, and other organic toxins in it, evaporate out of the hot water in the shower, so you inhale them. I think this is a bit more reasonable, but I don't think there is much in there, and your lungs just catch the bad stuff. I don't think a small amount will hurt you. Some people say a cigarette once a month might even help, though I doubt that.

If he is so worried about chlorine, he better not enjoy a hot tub. Actually got me worried to go in, since that actually would expose me to some chlorine.

Of course he did not mention the hot tub example. Probably because the water filter he is selling would not be used for a hot tub, and only works on the shower.

I bet if you went in the hot tube 15-30 minutes, 2x per day every day, you would get health problems soon. But 2-3x per week should be completely harmless, in my opinion.

Mercola even says our shampoos have bad chemicals in them too.
Well, I won't take a bubble bath for that reason. But a water bath, or a 10 minute shampoo shower should be just fine.

I get emails from Dr Mercola's site, normally quite informative, but I don't know if this guy is full of sh*t or not....for example, this shower filter that you mention, is this a real problem? would countries respective governments allow water companies to use strong detergents that could be detrimental for the public's health/skin etc... or a good way to sell stuff to Joe public using some alarmist data and then provide a product that gets round the problem....? :dunno:

The guy eats meat and eggs raw. He eats everything raw.

The most important thing he said that I'll repeat is that vitamin D is needed to make anti-bodies. People catch colds in the winter more because they are not in the sun and don't make vitamin D as much. Vitamin D also helps prevent many types of cancer, probably through immune action. So I take vitamin D pills and avoid the sun.

He says you can take a lot more than the RDA and not overdose. It is dangerous if you take too much, but he recommends taking like 10x the RDA.

CCS you should'nt be getting paranoid over this type of sh*t. The guy is just scaremongering to try and sell his own product.
The billions of people taking showers across the world dont seem to be dropping dead.
I can see you becoming one of these weirdo's with a germ phobia who seals themselves in their home washes their hands after touching anything. :shakehead:

Why would you avoid the sun, its probably the best source of Vit D you can get .. as long as yourenot exposed to the sun for too long.

I read the sun is a trade off. The UV rays age you, but the vitamin D protects you from other stuff. I just like to get the best of both: no sun, and vitamin D pills. I do get some sun sometimes, but try to stay in the shade or expose myself in the mornings, so I don't get it as strong. I still get gradual tans on my arms, face, and calves.

Considering how much sun my faces gets, I guess my body can afford to get some too.

I sat in the Jacuzi enjoying myself for an hour last night. Back and forth between it and the pool. Oh well, should have filled my bath tube with distilled water instead. Now I got too much chlorine in me.
