So my temples are receding a bit and i have very thin hair. I dont really wanna have to go to a Derm because im pretty sure its male pattern baldness. im 23 healthy, eat healthy and workout. Im stuck on getting on finasteride or Rogaine Foam. what kind of finasteride is the best? and cost effeficient? dont know what i should do? should i wait and see if it recedes more? or get on something right away to prevent further recession. ALSO i heard from some people that minoxidil. destroys their hairline and got off of it......please help guys!

pics would help us to help you. but you know your own hair pretty well and i'm sure you can decide if you are balding. i would suggest getting on treatment sooner than later.

Use http://www.imageshack.us - upload your photos on it and post the link here.

Depends how much you're receding I guess. If you're receding badly and want to stop it you can try finasteride or dutasteride which will hold what you've got. If you're looking for that AND in addition possible regrowth you'll probably need to apply some rogaine as well.

My advice would be to get on finasteride and give it a while to see how it impacts yor hair.
It may be a case whereby you don't even need the minoxidil.
If money is an issue then you can solve it by buying proscar tablets which are the same as Propecia but are 5mg instead of 1mg.

Buying a pill cutter you can then cut these tablets into either 1/5ths or 1/4s and therfore save a huge amount of money whilst still getting the same dosage of finasteride that Propecia provides.

I'd be wary of jumping into two medications at the same time as you will never be sure whaich is dong what and can therefore be stuck with two treatments for life when in reality one may be doing relatively little for you.

Have heard no reports of people losing their hairlines from minoxidil and practically everyone that has used it to my knowledge has actually regrown their hair after the initial shed and often some more on top of it.

What is the level of hairloss on your father at the present time and how old is he if you don't mind me asking... Your family is a great indication of
how you will fair when it comes to male pattern baldness, especially in my experience if you share many other physical characteristics of your father.

If you have any photos then it'd help people on here to aid you further. Please keep asking questions because that's what this forum is for, people helping fellow sufferers. There are a lot of well educated and knowlegable people on here so please use them!!!!

bon chance!

Looks to me like a head where minoxidil can do miracles. I think you need to try it.

If you're losing hair because of male pattern baldness, minoxidil won't keep your. SOme idiot on The Big Idea with Donny Deutsche was saying that minoxidil maintains, but it doesn't. It regrows. It might give the illusion of maintenance for a while, but eventually (probably) more ahir will have fallen out than you've grown back.

So get on finasteride, it regrows too. Minoxidil, your choice. Chances are you'll see better results with both.

Oh and don't get all obsessive compulsive studying your hair from all angles (unless you use a handheld mirror with a wall mirror) because it looks like you'd develop some serious forehead lines if you did.
