I stood over my sink right now and started messing/roughing up my hair really fast with my hand. About 25 hairs fell out. I waited about 20 minutes and did it again and about 10 hairs came out that time. That doesn't even show the almost 15 other hairs I've noticed come out today on my shirt, laptop, and desk. I know they say people lose about 100 hairs a day naturally, but come on.....really?
Does this happen to anyone else? Is this a sign of balding? I'm sure if I went to the sink and tried this again, I would probably see another 5-10 hairs. Are they being forced out, or are they just weak hairs that are being effected by DHT?

Not trying to sound neurotic, but just tried this again about 90 min later and about 15 hairs came out....I'm sure I can make some more come out if i keep it up. Whats going on??? Please, does this happen to anyone else?

yes

and i wish i knew what was going on too

it just doesnt make sense how much hair falls out with the slightest bit of pressure applied. i dont think normal balding people even experience this.........they just gradually lose hair as the roots die underneath the scalp

Probably not what you want to hear, but the most I've ever seen come out is about 15, that's after having my hair gelled the entire day and rinsing it out so it's trapped all the hair fallen out during the day.

When I rough my hair up like you I get 0-8 come out.

Everyone's different though in how many hairs they shed. I'm in the early stages of male pattern baldness, but friend has a fall head of hair (No signs of male pattern baldness) but his hair seems to be absolutely everywhere.

I've got that also. I've got about 60 or 70 hairs on my pillow and when I dry my hair after washing it, i find more than 200+ hairs in my towel. Look at these pictures, after drying my hair with a towel and shake the towel above the sink...

So please stop whinning when you loose around 50 hairs, thats NOTHING!!!

Guys, male pattern baldness is not caused by your hairs falling out! It is caused by your hair progressively growing back thinner and thinner over the process of several years. Chill out! :sobbing:

while thats true, without a doubt the first tell tale signs of balding is increase in telogen hairs resulting in increased shed hairs.

ive washed my hair in the sink after one of my friends did, and since the water in the sink took a long time to go down, i actually went in there like a freak when he was done to see how many hairs were left floating in the water that remained. There was 1 hair.
Ive been in hotel rooms with friends and taken showers after them where i also found 1 hair in the tub when they were done.
I am positive that some people who dont go bald shed a lot of hairs, most dont though. but im also positive that people who are balding shed a lot of hairs.

I was a NW4 and have been balding for 10 years. not once did I notice (or count) an abnormal amount of hair falling out.

I understand that everyone sheds hairs....but wouldn't a person with male pattern baldness shed at a faster rate, and shed more than usual....isn't that how we eventually bald? What about some people on these forums who go bald in a matter of a year or two. Don't you think they shed abnormal amounts of hair?

but thats just it....a normal amount of hair falling out to you might be 20 hairs. but before i was balding i noticed ZERO hairs falling which means i probably shed 2 or 3 hairs that went unnoticed.

once you think your going bald, and realize that you visibally see hairs on your hands after shampooing- the process has started.

an abnormal amount of hairs for you might be 50 hairs...whereas your normal 20 hairs that youve seen might be abnormal to a nonbalding guy who like me, was used to noticing zero hairs on his hands or the shower floor.

Hi,

I am just weighing up my options at the moment also as i shed a lot of hairs. I know i have male pattern baldness but watching them fall out in their numbers drives me mad. There is no way that my hairs are being replaced new stronger roots. I Shower hairs fall out, i dry my hair then shake the towel over the sink and watch a load more fall out. I lose a lot of eyebrow hair and also eye lashes bu that is down to the treatment.

what to do??

when hairs fall out the follicle lays dormant for 3months. when the hair finally does start growing it will only grow about 1/2 inch a month. so it will take a while for you to notice any improvement.

Thats right! they go through three stages.

it is all good and well if they actually grow back. i cant even notice any thinner lighter hairs coming through. I have a booked an appointment with a specialist place where i get my treatment from as i a worried about the shedding. I have been on treatment for nearly three years so you can see my concern.

Minoxidil 10%, 5% in the morning and then evening.
Propecia 1mg a day

I have been on this medication for three years now. It has probably decreased DHT but not completly so that is why i still shed.
