Does spironolactone actually work?

I see a lot of people on this forum and HLH who say they use spironolactone but I never see any of them post their results via pictures. In fact, the most I ever hear is "I've got a few hairs growing in the temple area" but they also use minoxidil.

Ideally spironolactone does work because it's a topical anti-androgen, but I've never seen any real success stories from it.
