Doctor or Derm...please help

This afternoon, I have the option of going to my doctor to speak about hairloss to a dermatologist (the derm will cost me much more money). Which one should I go to? Keep in mind my doctor is a bald guy who wears a ridiculous toupee and the derm is a female. I'm not in any way underminding the female derm, but my doctor might know a little bit about hairloss since he himself has struggled with it. What would you guys do? Please advise ASAP, I have to decide which one I'm going to today...

I would still see the derm.

Bringing this up to the doctor might make him feel a little, well, weird.

I honestly don't have much of an option. In order for me to see a derm, I need to get a referral from my doctor so unless he refers me to go see a derm, he's the one I have to talk to. From anyone's experience, who has spoken to a doctor and had a good experience. Who has spoken to a doctor and walked out feeling a lot more aware/knowledgeable/better about the situation?

Then why did you ask? You'll have to explain to him why you want to see the dermatologist...so you'll be receiving his input anyway. If you're not satisfied with that, ask for the referral.

By the way, a dermatologist is a doctor. The "doctor" you're referring to is likely your GP. It's probable that your GP is not "struggling" with male pattern baldness. A lot of guys accept it and subsequently place little, if any, importance on the matter...a point to remember. I wouldn't be shy about bringing up the subject.
