Or is it just the average rate of male pattern baldness? Like going down a norwood level every year, is this normal or? It's also concerning that users of propecia / finasteride appear to be affected by regular intervals of shedding which makes their male pattern baldness significantly worse during certain periods of being on the drug... doesn't that kind of defeat its purpose?
Do people on this forum have a more aggressive hair loss?

My hair loss is bad, but I wouldn't say it is overly aggressive. It took me about 15 years to get to a severely diffuse NW3.

I think I noticed my hairline receding slightly at around 19, but it really wasn't overly noticeable and my hair in the back was still thick. About 6 years passed before crown thinning became noticeable, and my hairline hadn't drifted too much further back in that time. So right now, I am about a Norwood 2.5 in the front, but have a decent amount of thinning in the crown area on the top part of my head, which is considered a 3V on the Norwood scale. The goof at Bosley told me I was developing a 5A pattern, despite having a thick central forelock and thinning in the back...probably why he's a "consultant" and not an actual MD. So, long story short, my balding has been slow, but only in the last year or so has it become a noticeable problem.
15 years from nw1? Wow that's not bad at all man.

This site has all sorts of balding dudes. There's paranoid-delusional body dysmorphic disordered people with full heads of hair, there's some cueballs that I guess are just interested in the subject of hair loss and preventing it for other men, and then there's a bunch of us that are around NW2-3 and just trying to slow down our loss and perhaps grow some new hair.
I think propecia only causes an initial shed, I've heard from tons of people that the shedding stops after a few months but there is a bad initial shed for some men. Some people have reported that the shedding never stops and propecia does nothing but it is only clinically proven to work in something like 8/10 men.
Anyways, I'd get on it if you actually know you have male pattern baldness. The sooner the better. Don't worry about shedding too much, worrying about shedding causes shedding.
