okay, the right tempolar region of my head has a high proportion of hair that is coarse and simliar to pubic hair (sees periods of unusually thick and thin growth- im talkin about the individual hair. overall in the area, there is less hair and more finer hair).

i also have these hairs dotted around my scalp, with a fair bit in the crown too

the regions of scalp these hairs grow from tend to have more thinning than the rest of my head (im a diffuse thinner).

its impossible to style my hair with these fuckers.

so i really have pubes emerging from my scalp!?

If you are black, this is normal.

LOL! im not that lucky!

Im of Pakistani origin. my dad HAD :) wavy hair. my mum has straight hair. my sisters have straight hair. damnit, i should have straight hair like chinese people. i love their hair.

Have you seen Prince Charles. my recession isnt as bad, and all my hair is black, but its like his - dry and puby! its got that wave - you know that wave. ugh. hate it.

Ohhhh okay, u know what i don't really know what you could do with the pubes... unless all your hair is like that all over it will blend with the rest of your hair. if its just random hairs in a specific area then i guess it would be more noticible. did you try styling it a different way? or maybe your dutasteride is making it grow so thick that its turning into pubes... who knows!

LOL!

naah, actually on the contrary. i've seen some of the recently shed "pubes" and now that ive been on dutasteride/finasteride for around 3 months, i can see that the most recent growth is smooth and normal (no kinks or anything). so its lookin good.

plus my hair feels softer, not dry like before. its getting better. i can see that its getting better. so im not worried anymore.

thanks for your help, vw dude.

When I first approached my GP about my hairloss back in the late 90s - he didn't have anything to tell me except that the only thing that would help my hairloss would be to keep my scalp clean and to perform scalp massages (BS to both).

He even poo-pooed Minoxidil because he said "the only thing I ever saw it do was to grow a few pubic hairs for a few people).

Are you taking minoxidil :)

nope! i couldnt do minoxidil yet, too much hassle.

i had this hair ever since male pattern baldness kicked in.

incidentally, my Doctor said the same thing about minoxidil. these docs are so full of sh*t at times.

it means that the affected area is likely to go bald

The condition of kinked coarse pubic like hair is called "acquired progressive kinking of the hair" and may (not 100%, but there is a fairly high chance) progress to androgenetic alopecia (i.e. male pattern baldness) That's why such hairs develop in high proportions only on the male pattern baldness-prone areas, such as temples and crown. Sometimes an area already affected by male pattern baldness starts developing such hairs. Either way, the pubic type hairs are an indicator of sensitivity to DHT. If the DHT is lowered by dutasteride or propecia or whatever , many of the hairs should become normal - which is a sign that its working. So keep at ur regimen and best of luck.
Cheers,
Arjun

hi! thanks arjun - thats very helpful. and your right, its is gettin better!! what is worrying though is that dutasteride more than doubles testosterone levels in the scalp, so i hope that testosterone doesnt start to have the same effect at higher concentrations.
