Do I have a sebum problem?

Hello,

I have a receding hairline and diffuse thinning. I have noticed that on my scalp, especially near my hairline, there are small little balls of what appears to be grease. They are very hard, and I can pick them off. Often, there is a hair attached to them. They are similar to balls of grease I pick off my face.

Is there a good way to get rid of these balls? Are they maybe causing hairloss?

Also, I'm on Dutas.

Thanks.

Androgens such as DHT (the hormone for responsible for your hairloss) causes the sebaceous glands in your scalp to enlarge and produce more sebum. You can deal with this using nizoral. Its proven to reduce sebum on the scalp and prevent inflammation. That should help you with your problem.

Thanks.

The only problem is, I'm on dutasteride and multiple websites say that if you take dutasteride you shouldn't use Nizoral.

Are there any other ways to reduce sebum?

Thanks!

Well nizoral is a weak androgen blocker so i guess its the fear of blocking too much DHT that has lead them to think that.

Revivogen shampoo claims to remove sebum and stimulate hair growth. You might be able to use that instead but i should mention I havent used it before and cant comment on wether it works or not.

Why would anyone fear of blocking too much DHT? The hell with DHT. :thumbdown2:

Put it this way you might as well get a sex change if you were to block too much of it. Dht also has some role in the brain.

But I thought Nizoral deals with the scalp only.

I was mainly generalising about the risk of lowering too much dht. There is a possible risk however of nizoral being systematically absorbed through the scalp but it will only be slight. The scalps hard to penetrate to get such absorbtion but if left long enough it could take a significant effect that could be harmful. I've heard oral nizoral is dangerous and can cause gyno. I think this is one reason you shoudnt leave nizoral on for a long time.

I think 5 minutes in the shower is a long time.

The instructions on the nizoral bottle (2%) say you should leave it on for 3-5 mins. Since i am using it to treat male pattern baldness i leave it on for at least 5mins but no more than 7 mins.

...do you know how many types of nizoral shampoo is there? I've heard there's a 1 and 2 percent and that one of them is not over-the-counter...

Edit: Ok wtf, so I've read from another forum that the 1% is available and the 2% in the US requires a pre. Wut. Gay. It's a shampoo Jesus Christ.

I just remembered not every country does nizoral 2%. I got mine from the internet not prescription. I ordered mine months ago but stopped using it because it dried my hair out and made me shed.

I started again when i understood why this was and knew more about it and the benefits its could potentially bring.
