Did hair transplant clinic screw my friend over? Is this a botched job?Many pics inside

The first set of pics with hair is before the hair transplant being on duta for a year, and after is immediately after the hair transplant.

My friend said he only saw them draw a line for the frontal area and had no idea they were going to transplant grafts onto the crown which was totally unnecessary... moreover it doesn't seem like the hairline improved that much and they could have done it like is drawn in the last picture. The wasted grafts on the crown could have been used to make a NW2 hairline.

Is this a normal situation? I've never encountered a situation like this but my friend is pissed. They claimed:

1.) that the crown needed grafts transplanted there, but they never told him this until after the surgery.
2.) that the hairline (in last pic) that he wanted would look unnatural. I disagree, a NW2 is perfectly realistic and would look normal with a thick crown situation.

The answer depends on how much they paid for it and whether the opinions of those outside of the field can provide a reasonably accurate assessment or not, and that we take his word without giving the clinic any ability to provide its own documentation.

Was it in a country with non-native English speakers? Possible miscommunication. But it could turn out looking great
