Did any of you go on accutane and notice further loss of hair? I hear it accelerates male pattern baldness. Does it offset the effects of finasteride?

I don't see by what mechanism it could accelerate male pattern baldness. Now, it will probably make your hair look worse because it drastically reduces sebum production so your hair will become very dry. This is probably more of a concern for female Accutane users or male users with long hair because there wouldn't be enough sebum to adequately cover the entire length of the hair shaft. And Accutane, like most drugs, could cause a form of alopecia unrelated to androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness).

It's likely nothing more than coincidence, due to the age men usually are when taking accutane. How old were you when you started?

Personally I was on Accutane when male pattern baldness started. In any case it's not a "nice" drug, new findings are constantly making it seem worse.. I would avoid it for those reasons alone.

I got off accutane about a month ago. My cycle was only 4 months (normally people use it 4-6 months), but I was only doing it to help dry up my oily skin and hair. I've always had an oily face and hair and it dries you up right away. It's not fun and makes you extremely dry, but is supposed to change the way your skin produces oil permanently. A side effect is hair loss, but it does not happen to everyone. I started finasteride a month before going on accutane. I did see more than normal shedding, but don't know if it was due to the finasteride or accutane. I took pictures during the cycle and did not notice any added hair loss visually. As of now, my hair and face are not nearly as oily as before and the drying has gone away. The shedding has slowed also.
