Diarrhea after taking finasteride

WIthin a half hour of taking finasteride usually i will get diarrhea to some degree or another (usually its more soft than liquidy, sorry for the disgusting graphic detail)

is this an indicator that my body miht be rejecting the finasteride and its not doing me any good since its being flushed out? id imagine that at least some of the 1.25 mg i take a day would have to be absorbed, so if nothing else i would probably still get SOME benefit, right? or am i wrong on this

sorry again for the graphic detail, i hate to be the guy who comes on here asking questions like this, but here i am...

EDIT: perhaps if the stuff is actually being flushed out before it has a chance to mke itself useful, might lowering the dose be helpful? to maybe .5 mg?

I seriously doubt it. I have never heard of anybody having problems like this from finasteride; it simply doesn't cause any sort of gastrointestinal disturbances in people.

There could be a small chance you are having an adverse reaction to it or one of the fillers used in these pills, but I would say it's extremely unlikely.

Do you take it with water in the mornings? Do you usually drink water in the mornings? I find that drinking a full glass does the same thing for me; especially for people that don't usually drink water. Also, do you find yourself worrying after you take your dose? Keep in mind that anxiety very commonly causes this symptom.

To try to rule these things out, try switching it up. If you take it in the morning, take it at night. If you don't take it with food, try taking it with food. Try taking it with less water.

I know people usually take all their daily pills at once; are you taking anything else new that might be causing it? There are simply an endless number of potential causes, and I would be extremely surprised if finasteride caused this on its own!

well i drink a lot of fluids in the morning, so perhaps youre right on that. maybe ill try just drinking enough water to get it down tomorrow...and i also take fish oil and a multi in the mornings...guess i just believed it to be the finasteride since i started noticing this around the same time i started taking it, but that doesnt mean i never had it previously.

anyway, thanks for the reply. guess ill just try and lighten up on the water for now and see if that helps.

EDIT: for the time being though, would you say its likely that even though this happens, i am still absorbing the finasteride relatively well? that is what im really worried about

Thats a pretty common theme around here; when people notice ANY change, real or imagined, it's always immediately chalked down to finasteride. It's not really your fault, I guess its human nature to jump to the most immediately obvious conclusion.

I'm not an expert, but I believe finasteride dissolves almost immediately after hitting your stomach acid, and absorbs through your intestines shortly after. Unless you have extremely severe diarrheah that causes you to reject everything in your system (which would likely be coupled with vomiting) I doubt you have any reason to worry.

But by all means, if you think it might be linked, go see a doctor.

may be a long shot,

but acute diarrhoea can be associated to anxiety , so maybe its down to that,
i know when i first took my 1st pill i panicked like a MOFO and thought my nits were falling off....
try to relax dude,

You wouldn't be the first! Exact same thing happened to me about a month ago. Reading all the messages frankly scared the crap out of me (not literally as in your case). lol.

Just relax, take a few weeks away from the forums and regain some mental clarity. It did the trick for me, and I felt back to my old self in a couple days. It's pretty amazing when you immerse yourself in all this negativity for such a long time, you start actually experiencing it yourself.. The mind is powerful!

It's easy to lose weeks and months obsessed about certain things.. And with the amount of information available on the internet, it really becomes habit forming. People often forget to just go out and live life

The only way finasteride can cause this is if you have some strange allergic reaction to one of the fillers in the medicine. It has nothing to do with finasteride's effect on hormones.

I took my first Finast (Dr Reddy's) quarter yesterday morning and this morning (around 22 hours later) I had pretty bad diarrhea. I think may stop for a few days for the stomach to settle to try another quarter. If the same thing happens I guess I know it will be the finasteride.

No...it's really not! Take finasteride every day for a week and see how your intestinal issues are. I'd be willing to bet that it just so happened that you took finasteride for the first time on the same day that your body said "OMG, GET THIS sh*t (literally) OUT OF ME!!!" DHT blockers have 0 effect on your digestive system.

Ok. I've just taken the quarter. Let's see. Should I stop taking the saw palmetto or can you take both?

I would drop the Saw. It does the same thing as finasteride (according to some), just in a MUCH smaller amount.

A not about Saw "Few side effects or allergic reactions are associated with saw palmetto extract use. The most common side effects are gastrointestina" So...that could be part of the problem as well.

Mmm, that's interesting. Thanks. Never experienced any sides with Saw.

C'mon man how can Finasteride give you the runs? Why does Finasteride induce so much internet hypochondria?

...because if you introduce something new into your system and you suddenly experience something negative naturally you assume a link!
