Having done lots of research, DHT only becomes problematic in a hypoxic environment ( low oxygen/ blood flow). In normal environments DHT would make hairs thicker just like beard, body hair.

The hair themselves are no dfiferent from the top and the back of the head, its the environment. Transplanted hairs only last longer on the top because fatty tissue is transplanted with the hairs and the injury promotes growth of new blood vessels.
Some people are just more resistant to the process and have better capillary systems to start out with. One of the biggest things that impedes oxygen is calcification of tissue and artieries. The top and outer parts of the scalp are already the weakest and subject to minor issues.
