Destructive when having kids?

Got my prescription. 3 months of 1mg finasteride sitting right in front of me. Still hesitant to take the pill.

I do hope to have kids one day. You guys think taking finasteride for a prolonged period of time will some how do irreversible damage to your semen? My GP said, if you plan on having kids, that you should stop taking finasteride 6 months prior to "the act".

Even with the half year break, do you think say, using finasteride for more than 4 years will somehow cause mental/physical disabilities in your offspring?

Sorry, just another paranoid guy looking for some closure.

finasteride will lower your sperm counts and make it more difficult to conceive a child while on it, but it should still be possible easily provided your numbers were normal before. Even after stopping, you will never fully recover to your old sperm counts 100%, but it is a small change, only like 5% or 10% lower or something like that.

finasteride will not effect the quality of the genetic material of the sperm so it won't increase risks of deformities or things like down syndrome/autism/developmental issues

Ok, so "potency" of your sperm will be affected. Might make it harder to have a kid.

But, I should have no worries about deformities/developmental issues? This is my main concern.
