Hey guys .. I had set up an appointment with my derm for next Friday but I feel I can't wait much longer without some advice ... I have been on finasteride for close to 5 months and mino for 6. everything was going fine in which I mean I have not experienced any sides up until 3-4 weeks ago when I noticed an unbearable amount of shedding and itchy on my scalp !! I have never had such an intense amount of itchiness even before treatment ... I held a mirror up against my bathroom mirror to observe my scalp and notice a lot of pinkish dots I believe it's folliculitis... I started using nizoral and head and shoulders a lot more often the past 1.5 weeks but my question is should I discontinue my minoxidil use and see if my itch goes away ? The cosmetic appearance of my hair as taken a very bad hit and I feel like I'm worse then my baseline 6 months ago this is extremely disturbing to me if anyone has experience with this please advise me ... I'm freaking out to be honest

Same thing happened to me at 7 months into Rogaine. Twas probably a second shed and now it has subsided down after 6 weeks. The only option you have is to rideit out.

minoxidil sheds shouldn't cause itch, it could be folliculits your derm will be able to tell you for sure, you shouldn't be using Nizoral shampoo more than 2-3 times a week at most. The other possibility is that you could have gotten hyperandrogenicity which is where the androgen receptors upregulate and cause you to lose hair at a quicker rate than before, it also ups the sex drive and other systems based on androgens. Pray you haven't got that...

You had the same pinkish dots on your scalp ? Would you suggest to just continue using minoxidil as normal ? For explain in the morning when I wake up the pinkish dots are not noticeable it is only when I scratch at them that they redden

I don't think I have hyperandrogenicity doesn't that also cause a outbreak of acne and usually only occurs in women ? I believe it's folliculitis my concern is if minoxidil is irritating it further and if I should take a break from it and only take my finasteride

Yeah man at the 7 months mark the itch also returned along with increased shed. I had never shed much initially on Rogaine. But at 7 months mark I lost a lot of hair. I got scared and threw in Finasteride. After 6 weeks the shed has slowed down to 20-25 hairs from 80-100. And the itch has also subsided a lot. No I don't have pinkish dots and stuff. Just mild dandruff and the itch.
Try riding out the shed for like 6-10 weeks as that's the average time for a second shed to end from what I have read on these forums. It might last longer.
Keep hope!

Thanks for the advice bro I do believe the itch is from the shed because it began around the same time I noticed excessive shedding around 3-4 weeks ago as for the pinkish dots idk what they are .. Sometimes they aren't even visible I just got a buzz cut from my barber and he's a good friend of mine and knows I'm on treatment he would tell me if he saw anything and he didn't mention anything
I will stick to what I've been doing
