Dandruff from minoxidil

Lately ive been getting serious dandruff from using minoxidil....

its pretty disgusting actually - for example i came home from lunch today and looked a mirror in a strong light and could see tiny bits of white all over my scalp/hanging onto my diffuse-ridden hair.

one thing is thinning, another thing is it being f*****g next to impossible to keep my hair looking good for a full day but now white bits fluttering about?

f*** this sh*t.


ive also been using nizoral and consciously keeping it in the full 5 minutes this time (approx 3 times a week), would this also be a contributor to this?

i think your probably using the liquid minoxidil ....right?

have you tried the foam?

maybe it's not dandruff but just dried minoxidil residue

i think the foam stuff leaves much less residue

usually nizoral is good for dandruff problems so i see that causing the flakes

yeah i use liquid

tried the foam but its generally a pain in the *** imo and ull use 4x as many cans as u would minoxidil bottles. just doesnt seem feasilbe

i dont think tis residue anyway as i had 2 showers since my last night application and its still there. its the minoxidil that soaks and greases up my scalp - not sure if the juice is worth the squeeze on this one.

no, would that be a reason for thinning in general or just the dandruff?

^ sorry i just looked Seborrheic dermatitis up and i dont think i have it. its just dandruff coming from minoxidil since ive started soaking my hair in it every night (to compensate for only using it once a day). not seeing any results after 2 months of this (ive also been on propecia for 2 months - no results yet)

I had the same dandruff problem. It was horrible, everywhere, big chunks, but I have gotten rid of 75 percent of it. I use a Tea Tree Shampoo and then a tea tree conditoner each day. Nizoral in between 3 -4 times a week.

I would like to get rid of all of the dandruff so I've been doing some research. I use the nizoral every other day so on the off days I'm going to start using T-SAL shampoo... and leave in 5 min. between Tea Trees. This T-Sal shampoo exfoliates the scalp and should clear the dandruff totally. It's also supposed to be a great shampoo for hairloss.

I have the same problem as Colin297. I have started on minoxidil in October 2008 and the first signs of this heavy dandruff appeared last February. I been using Nizoral 3 times a week.

i got dandruff from minoxidil as well. its definitely not just residue; as the poster said, even after several showers, dandruff was still there. nizoral helped me a little, but i got the most help from just plain dandruff shampoo. try a couple of those (like head&shoulders, selsun blue, etc) and see if it helps.

Its very possible of course but most of the time its from the residue.
