I just turned 19 last month so I’m still pretty young and I’m pretty worried that I’m going to end up bald soon. I just wanted to know whether what I’m experiencing might be anything other than male pattern baldness?
I have essentially no family history of baldness. Everyone, grandparents, uncles, etc. on my dads side of the family have experienced little to no hair loss well into their 40s and 50s.
On my moms side my grandfather lost a bit of hair in his late 50s and he’s now 70 with a decent amount of hair. My uncle on my moms side is 49 and hasn’t lost any hair at all.
I started losing A LOT of hair in January of 2018, hundreds of hairs falling in the sink etc. it’s also worth noting that I had almost never seen hair fall out before this point.
In October my girlfriend of 5 years who I had know since I was 13 cheated on me right after we both started college. It was probably the worst month of my life so there was a lot of stress.
I’ve definately seen recession around the temples but I have a lot of baby hairs growing out of those spots. I should also mention that I’ve always had a bad hairline, even before I had these problems my friends would make fun of me and say I was going to be bald, but I think that’s mostly because of the shape of my forehead and a natural widows peak. I’ve always hated my hair because it has always been extremely fine as well, essentially since I was born.
The reason I feel like it may be something other than classic male pattern baldness is that it seems to be all over the place and has happened very quickly. I can clearly see my scalp and all the way back to the middle of my forehead through my hair when it’s in the light and there is very minimal hair density. This phenomenon is uniform across the scalp including the sides of my head, although the very back is a little more difficult to tell because the hair grows downwards and is slightly longer.
I plan on seeing a dermatologist eventually but since I’m out of the US for college I’m going to make the appointment once I finish and get back home in June.
The combination of the uniform lack of density, the stressful month in October and December, and my lack of a family history all make me curious as to whether or not this is something other than male pattern baldness.
I’ve attached some pictures for reference, I really appreciate anyone’s feedback.
This is the top of my head
