Hi all

I'm 24 and i have been taking 1mg of propecia every other day for about 6 months now i think. I haven't experienced any regrowth yet, but there has been no further hair loss which is good. For the first month or so I was taking it everyday, but i stopped due to sides such as brain fog and a pain in my side.

My problem is that for the last few weeks i have been experiencing bad depression. I generally just feel very down all the time and im not feeling myself. Everyone around me has been saying they are worried about me because im not my usual happy self. I don't know what could have caused this, nothing bad has happened, only good things (Such as a career change). Seems like one day i just woke up feeling very down and i havent been better since. Could my 1mg of propecia every other day be causing this? It's the only medication that i'm taking. I'm worried that if i stop taking it that I will lose a lot of hair. Not too sure what to do. any advice would be great! thanks

I would say yes it could be. Dont medications have side effects listed right on the bottle? Is depression a possible side effect of finasteride? If it is then why couldnt it be related?
All you could do is stop propecia for a while and see if it gets better. If it goes away and your gut feeling it was the finasteride than stop taking it. Each person is different

Yes depression is a possible side effect of finasteride. I just found it odd how for the first 6 months i didn't experience it then suddenly it comes out of no where

I personally think propecia can influence depression on individuals... I don’t think I’m depressed when I’m on propecia, although I feel a little less witty and on the ball, this can translate to a depressive mood/personality.

If you wanna test it just take a 3 day break from propecia, first 24 hours after the last pill should be usual, but if it is the propecia you should be feeling a little more spry by 48 and completely spry by 72 hours... if you still feel depressed at that point you can rule out finasteride

finasteride didn't cause me depression, if anything it lifted a lot of depression as my scalp itch stopped, i no longer woke up with a matress full of hair, and at work i was no longer reminded of going bald as no longer did a hair float down past my eyes every 5 minutes.

a medication that did cause me depression when i first started taking it was Gabapentin. when i took that within 30 minutes i could feel it kicking in, and it made me teary and caused me to think about bad things in my life. but luckily this went away after about 2 weeks

this is why i think finasteride is a very benign drug, at least for me. basically taking it i feel no difference. other drugs i have been on once caused me to see flashing swastikas when i closed my eyes one night.
