I'm 25. Let this go on too long, stupidly stopped and started treatment.

I realize my situation isn't great. But my plan is to do treatment, see where I can get (maybe I can get decent results because my pattern is diffuse thinning?), and save up for a hair transplant in 2-3 years.

You could get excellent results, you could get no results. It really depends on your body chemistry. If finasteride did work, a hair transplant is definetely a possibility to fix your hairline.
