Hi guys, would like to hear your thoughts on this one.
Could finasteride purchased from pharmacy be fake? I've the slightest suspicion, maybe i'm a worry child. :p

It could be fake but chances are highly in favor that it's not.

Why do you think it might be?

Mainly because I still lose a fair bit of hair everyday and no visible improvement in my crown and frontal area after 1 year of use (8 months of 1mg EOD, and 4 months of 1mg daily currently).
and I feel that some batches of the drug seems to reduce my libido more than other batches from another pharmacy, but that could just be my imagination.

How does the pharmacy get their supply of the drug anyway? through MSD directly? How could there still be a chance that it's fake?

You may be a non-responder. Has your hair gotten worse or have you maintained?

It probably is your imagination.

I don't know how pharmacies get their supply but I can assume it's done in a reliable manner assuming you're talking about real pharmacies. I should have clarified that the chances of your finasteride being fake are astronomically small in my opinion. While there is a small chance of fake drugs finding their way into legitimate brick and mortar pharmacies, I don't think finasteride would be one of them simply because it is not a "popular" drug. I saw a list once of the most prescribed drugs and finasteride wasn't even in the top 100. I highly doubt that finasteride has ever been counterfeited.

hey beaner,

thanks for your reply. I guess that rules out the fact that finasteride I bought could be fake then.

Yeah, I may be a non-responder.. My thinning on the crown has been the same by the naked eye as when I first started finasteride, which is around a year ago. But I don't know if that means I've maintained, could be just a gradual thinning process that takes longer to notice.
I kind of judged finasteride being not that effective for me from hair falls per day hasn't declined at all, maybe even increased a bit. And that the problem area is still itchy. I don't know if that is the right mindset to judge.
