hi everyone, i hope some of you have some time to read this and offer your advice.

Basically im 30.5 yr old, i would class may hair as being nw1-nw1.5 the front of my hairline follows my upper forehead wrinkle for the center 2.5-3 inches of my head then there are 2 "bites" out of either side probably rising about half and inch maybe slightly more above the top forehead wrinkle. its been like this for the past 12 years and i really don't see much change in it. my hair has always been dense, so dense i would often have it thinned in order to style it. as i dont spike my hair anymore i dont bother. hair still seems dense at this time.

sadly my old man is about nw4-nw5 but with a lot of thin hair on top but the front 3 inches is gone, dads mums dad is unknown but her half brothers had decent hair. my mums dad was like Norwood 2.5 when he died at 90. his dad had a full head of hair at 90, my mums mums dad had a good head of hair. my dad is less bald than his father and he was less bald than his. basically i see my old man as worst case scenario but ofcourse i could be wrong. dont have many photos of dad but he looked far more receded in his twenties than i am now.

also my dads brother is as bald as my dad but his two sons have kept all their hair in their forties so it is possible to have a bald dad and keep your hair.

so back to me. earlier in the year i was considering taking a cycle of steroids but after reading about the effects on the hair i decided against. however since then i have been somewhat paranoid about my hair. quite often in autumn i would see an increased shed, i saw this first in my early 20s and i was in major panic but here i am 10 years on with the same hair.

i have seen an increase shed this year probably 50 hairs a day, this seems to have slowed in the past couple of weeks. i find myself pulling at my hair or flicking it above the sink. nearly all the hair looks normal, dark with bulb and a cut end. however i have seen some lighter whispy hairs with a tapered tip (not root) some came from the top and i found a couple here and there from the side and back. is this the first signs of balding?

i have read elsewhere that its normal for non balding men to have some miniturized hairs as in 10%? also i saw two strong hairs with a thin short tapered tip hair coming from the same bulb. probably seen 20 or so of these tapered hairs in the past month. i should add i do a lot of weightlifting and back in june-july-august i went a bit mental with the heavy weights, not sure if this has an effect on hormones.

really not sure if i should be worried at this point, i still have thick hair and cant see any sign of receding in the past few years. dad receded from the front he still has a lot of crown hair all my other male relatives that i know of have their crown hair?

sorry for the long post but any thoughts welcome.

btw im in the middle of nowhere so seeing in the know to check is not that simple.

thanks for reply. yeah to look at my head you would not think im going bald, but im still worried about these shorter hairs with taper on the tip, some are finer in thickness aswell. most hair shed though look normal with cut end.

also i meant to add that i have very low body hair and only about 15% of what a normal beard has but over the last couple of months i notice an increase in facial hair, not a huge amount though. ive read where people have their beard thicken around the time balding started so this makes me worry to as it might mean dht has increased. i did got a bit overboard with the heavy weights over the summer not sure could this boost dht?

i just dont know, should i just monitor the situation for a while? im a bit wary of some of the drugs available but i would probably be willing to try if it became obvious. i dont think i can justify starting at this moment though.

Without pics we can't really judge. If you don't want to post pics here are the easiest two ways to tell:

Temporal recession
You can see scalp when you shouldn't be able to (hair is medium-long length and dry)

ok here are a few pictures there not very good some are cropped out of larger ones i hope they come out in order. before anyone jumps on me here the sides of my hairline have always been higher than the middle and i lack those pointy bits either side which make it more open looking. in all honesty i cannot see any change in hairline, if it has moved its only by a few milimetres. the centre follows upper wrinkle which i believe is where it was when i was a kid. obviously in my teens at some point the sides moved higher.

Note: ignore number on pictures, the correct order is top left to right and so forth

the first one is taken 12 years ago my fringe would be styled upwards in the centre you can see my temple area is quite open.

second one is from 5.5 years ago, fringe would be covering temple are to some degree.

third is the same again you can see i have no point at the side and fringe is over temple area.

fourth catches me while larking about same day from the top

fith i just took after cutting hair at 1 1/8 inches long as i said my hair still looks thick. still slightly damp

sixth was a parting above left temple before cutting today.

seventh was after cutting, appears a bit distorted as im pulling hair back, the centre 2.5 inches of my hairline is fairly straight
