Combining Finasteride And Ru: Overkill Or Winning Combo?

I just had a FUE hair transplant and now that I've joined the dark side I have to make sure I'm using the best treatments available. I don't want to book another procedure anytime soon and I would love to thicken up the thinning areas around the crown and mid scalp.

Been on finasteride+ minoxidil for several years. Never been serious with nizoral, reluctant to stick with it because of all the sulfate(looking to have straight hair).

I remember DecadeTwo advocating the combination of a systemic and a topical anti-androgen.

It's easy to find the dozen of threads compairing finasteride and RU but how about using both in the hope to see some thickening?

Thank you for your replies.

Use the least amount of things you can to maintain. RU is unlikely to give regrowth but you can try it for 6 months and see.

I have been on finasteride for several years, just wanted to be extra safe after a hair transplant. I'm not after regrowth, thickening the crown a little would already be fantastic!

I'm on finasteride and minoxidil foam and adding 10g oral minoxidil when i get my delivery. Also adding ru 50mg when i got money.
I dont really consider this overkill for my situation.

Finasteride and RU58841 is not overkill, in fact I'm actually on both except that I'm using a stronger 5-AR inhibitor called Dutasteride. Swoop on the other hand is on Finasteride and RU58841.

The point is, just try to keep maintenance of your hair as minimal and simple as possible. If you're maintaining perfectly well on Finasteride alone then there's absolutely no need for RU58841.

Yes I'm maintaining just fine, but I just had a hair transplant, so the stakes are higher now, would love to avoid a second one for as long as possible. I'm also planning on injecting some testosterone in the future, so I want to use a topical anti-androgen to compensate.

What was your reasoning behind your decision to add RU to dutasteride? Were you losing ground and in the need for something extra strong?

I don't mind making my own RU I already make my own anti-aging creams and tbh I really enjoy it. Expanding my labarotory to topical anti-androgens is exciting. But of course if it's useless, I won't bother!

Nothing wrong with giving the topical anti-androgen a try if it means to find comfort and peace in using it.

My male pattern Baldness is really strong which is why I use both Duasteride and RU58851, along with Minoxidil. I make my own batches as well, using Neogenic's Stemoxydine as the vehicle. I guess it's as good as it can get, at least in this age of treating hair loss.

Neogenic is quite expensive, I'm not so sure about its legitimacy but I could be convinced. My idea was to mix it with minoxidil, is that what you're also doing? I don't mind making another product at home, it's just that two applications at night, waiting for them to absorb... will take ages and be a hassle. Now, if you are combining RU, neogenic and minoxidil I'm sold!

Actually, what I do is apply Minoxidil separately once daily and then later in the day apply RU58841 mixed in Neogenic, that's what I've done. Do whatever is best for you but always keep in mind that topical treatments for hair loss aren't the most practical in terms of simplicity.

I'd rather mix it with minoxidil, things would be too complicated I already have a complex skincare regimen. Neogenic is expensive if used daily, isn't it?

A bit off topic, I apologize. Could you give more details regarding your skin care routine ?

I was on minocycline 100mg for 3 months and naively thought I founs my cure, onky to realize it elevated my liver enzymes (AST / ALT) really high and I had to quit.

The acne came back quite immediately and now I'm on retin-a 0.025% for a few months and I'm not sure if it's doing much. Still waking up with new acne.

Regarding your RU vehicle, it's better to apply RU first and a few minutes later you can apply minoxidil over it. But mixing ru with minoxidil will be fine as well, tho not ideal. If you plan on injecting test, I would definitely hop on RU is you want to maximize saving ur hair.

Morning: cleanse(rinse then cleanse then rinse again), homemade DMAE+ lipoic acid cream

Or: cleanse, tone, BB cream

I apply sunscreen once a day before I have to get exposure, which I limit q lot.

Night: cleanse, wait 20 minutes, apply retin-a, wait 10 minutes, apply Nivea creatine and q10 cream.

That is on top of applying minoxidil twice a day already, using concealers, antiseptic lotion these days(39 days post FUE)... Along with a busy schedule. Which is why I'd just like to mix something with my minoxidil and not make it even more complicated!
