Hello, I'm going to make this short... when I was 17 I had long locks but I kept seeing my scalp more and more due to shedding. I knew my Dad was bald so I jumped onto research and waited until I was 18 to get on Proscar. I have no sides luckily... Coincidentally, I had severe dandruff around 14 and was prescribed Nizoral 2% so I've also been using that during my regime with Proscar. It has thicken my hair up a bit. Just yesterday I found this electronical massager I had a long time ago so I've been using that to get the blood around my head going. Also planning to buy thyme, coconut, lavender and rosemary oil to massage around my head... heard it stimulates hair growth and thickens hair aswell.

Recently I've cut my hair halfway to my 1st year anni with Proscar and I've got to say it pretty much saved most of the shedding on the front of my head.. and nizoral possibly regrown some. I'm not going to lie... when I took this picture I nearly got petrified like I did when I was 17. :/ It's because I've never really looked at my crown area.

Should I get into minoxidil now? I'm scared if I start at such a young age my body will resist it before I even hit 30. When do you recommend Avodart/dutasteride for a young fellow?

Wow, this wasn't short at all... also, if I do update you guys with progress pics don't get pissed off by the length of my hair by that time. I really do enjoy my hair longer than an inch. :p

I would add minoxidil. It works best for the crown. Looking at your pic, you are a good candidate. You are lucky you have your temples. I am currently using spectral dnc. It has not regrown hair, but has slowed the loss drastically.

Seeing as you are new here and asking for advice, someone named Bryan may come in here to promote proxiphen (like he usually does for any newbie thread asking for advice). Please ignore him.

Thanks for the replies Ben and jksl :woot: ... and for the heads up about proxiphen. Also, I'm very glad your hairloss has slowed down on spectral dnc.

Would you also recommend what Ben has said, waiting for my one year on Proscar to add minoxidil, jksl? I'm preferring that advice since a lot of the success stories on here have good results after one year on finasteride and then adding minoxidil after that first anniversary.

I think the only reason someone would suggest waiting until 1 year on Propecia is because it may thicken your hair up enough to not need Minoxidil. You won't lose out on any effectiveness if you start it now and I think it would be wise to do so. Your hair loss is aggressive, but with any luck, in 6 months you'll be much improved if you add minoxidil and stay on finasteride.

Also, your scalp looks really red.. I'm not sure what to suggest, but you should address that as it may be making things worse.

I would add the minoxidil soon. No point in waiting. Finasteride and minoxidil work well together, if you can tolerate them.

Thanks for the much appreciated replies. :)

I'll be adding minoxidil to my regimen in two months (financial reasons)

@kc444: My scalp might be red due to toweling my head vigorously all my life... I've changed that habit recently but I'll check up with my doctor to try to confirm that.
