Hello everyone.
I have been experiencing hair loss for several years now. I am 26 now, and would estimate that my hair loss began around age 22 or 23. I should say for starters, that my hair was very long during this time, halfway down my back. I had not cut it since I was 16, not so much as a trim, and I know that it was damaged because of this. I also worked a full-time job as a chef, where I was required to keep my hair tied back tightly, and wear a baseball cap at all times. I have no idea if any of this really causes hair loss, but I do know that during this time period, there was an awful lot of hair collecting in the drain when I took a shower after work. Several months ago I cut my hair for job-hunting reasons, and it is still longish, but only about chin-length presently. I should also say that since cutting my hair, and leaving my job as a chef (and therefore no longer having to wear a hat and have my hair tied back tightly for 50-60 hours a week), the clumps of hair in the shower drain have vanished.
What I first noticed of my hair loss was considerable receding at my hair line. I have recently also seen that my hair has thinned at the back of my crown. T0 my knowledge, there is no hair loss in my family. My father had a high hair line by the time he died at the age of 50, but pictures of him at my age, and even well into his 40s, showed that he had a normal hair line without signs of recession. I do not have many pictures of my grandfathers, but from the few that I do have, they display some thinning of the hair that would be considered typical of elderly men, but certainly not full-on baldness.
I am looking for advice from people that have experienced this sort of thing before, or have head of successful treatment methods. I have been around the Internet looking for treatments that will work for me, but everywhere I have gone I have felt like I was being pitched to by a bunch of salesmen. I feel like I can find an unbiased audience here, and hope that I can get helpful feedback on how to begin a treatment regime to help grow my hair back. If you all thing it will help, I would be more than happy to take some pictures of my hairline and crown and upload them here.
Thanks in advance!
