Age 31.

Male.

Ok, finally waking upto male pattern baldness. Had receeding sides for many years, even looking back at a passport photo nearly 7 years ago my sides havn't receded a lot but really noticeable now unlike before for some reason - that being I am more aware probably. So its long term. People are starting to comment on my 'sunroof' basically my double crown is thinning - no bald spots yet.

My dad went completely bald before my age yet my mother's brother ( my uncle) still has a head of hair at 50+

Really want to retain what I got and if possible thicken up my crown and definately prevent any more receding at the front and halt losing my hairline in the middle.

Dont know what my biggest fear is - having a bald spot or receding hair line at front instead of just sides.

Have been on Indian Finasteride for a couple of weeks but due to the availability of cheap proscar (5mg tabs for £25 in the uk) I may switch once my finasteride runs out.

I would like advice on how to combat the thinning crown and the receding hair line.

I have heard the propecia and its generic others do not halt the hair line receding - is this true? If so what can I do?

Any other advice on how to nip the male pattern baldness in the bud would be most kind.

Firstly I reckon your thinning doesn't look too bad at all. Put it this way - I'd be happy to have what you've got when I'm thirty (I'm 22 now).

Anyhow, propecia as far as I have snooped on these boards, is a regimen primarily for maintenance. There have been some stories of regrowth, but these are the exception rather than the rule.

If you really want some regrowth I would get on minoxidil and a more aggressive DHT inhibitor (i.e. dutasteride) with the one proviso that you don't have any side effects.

Good luck and don't worry!

Wow, just saying, you look pretty good. I wish I had started fighting it when I was at your point. Keep up the finasteride and minoxidil (wish I didn't have a reaction to that stuff). Don't freak out, you're doing all the right stuff and you've started at the right time.

is doing minoxidil with the propecia really necessary?

Cheers for the replies.

Is proscar going to be enough to maintain my crown. I dont like the idea of having to rub in lotion or the extra costs !!

I know its likely not to happen to regrow my temples but I really really want to halt the receding so I maintain at least the front part of my hairline - I can live with a widows peak.

From my understanding, proscar wont help maintain my temples, only the top - is this correct?

A question. male pattern baldness is from our mother? so it's correct to compare our male pattern baldness with our father?

Look at your mother's dad, not your own dad.

Looking at your mothers dad is a myth...
