Can Your Balding Follow The Exact Same Pattern As A Relative?

Maybe it is just confirmation bias, but my "balding" (if you can call it that) seems to be following the same exact pattern as my father's to a T, both in appearance and in timing. He has a somewhat receded right temple with little recession on the left. The same is true of me. When I inquired to him about it, he said it (the temporal recession) happened abruptly in his early 20's and then never got worse. I noticed my temporal recession a little over 1.5 years ago and it hasn't worsened much if at all since then (haven't treat it). Has anyone else had similar experiences? Is it possible for your balding to parallel that of your father's that closely?

Family history is an indicator, but not a completely foolproof one. Male pattern baldness can often skip one or more generations, and sometimes it can come out of nowhere. Male pattern baldness is thought to be inherited slightly more from the mother's side than the father's side, but the father's side is also important. It is common for a man to have a similar pattern and rate of hair loss to what his father had, although it probably would not be exactly alike considering the fact that fathers and sons only share 50% of their DNA. Identical twins, meanwhile, will likely have pretty much an identical pattern and rate of hair loss (assuming neither of them is treating it) seeing as they share over 99.99% of their DNA.
