Can you keep the hair you regrow using finasteride?

So, I've started treating my male pattern baldness with finasteride and nizoral. I'm about to add Kirkland Minoxidl to the regiment and I will officially be a big 3 user :woot: Just have a quick question: if I do regrow some hair with minoxidil, can I maintain those hairs just by continuing to take finasteride? Or are hairs that are regrown by minoxidil completely dependent on minoxidil? Aka I will have to continue applying it indefinitely? I know hairs regrown by finasteride need to be maintained by finasteride, but can finasteride also maintain the hair that's been regrown by other means?

The hairs grown from using minoxidil will be minoxidil dependent. So once you start using minoxidil and get regrowth, you will have to continue using it or else you will lose those hairs you regrew.

Ok, thanks! Would you have to use it every day for maintenance? Or would 2-3 times per week be enough?

Damn, that's a pain in the ***! Can someone explain the science behind it if possible? If I'm not mistaken, minoxidl turns thinning / velus hairs into fuller, thick ones. Meaning it will only work on parts that aren't completely bald. Finasteride maintains all the hair you have, sometimes turning thin into thick, also not working on the areas that are completely bald. So theoretically, minoxidil should thicken them up, and finasteride should keep them on your head, right? Or do the thick hairs just go through the miniaturization process again if minoxidil use is ceased, regardless of finasteride usage?

to be fair, many people get away with taking 1mg, mon, wed, fri. but that is only some people, it may work for you or may not.

Pretty sure he meant minoxidil, not finasteride. The fact that you have to use minoxidil every day and you run the risk of losing your minoxidil-dependent hairs if you stop for a couple weeks is the reason I don't use it.

That's also the reason I'm hesitant to use it. If I add minoxidil to the regiment, my hair might grow back, but there's no way of knowing which drug that's attributed to. The regrowth might be from the finasteride and nizoral, but since I wouldn't know for sure, I would have to keep using the minoxidil forever in case it IS from that. And I might be using it for nothing and not even know it!

So you think I should just stick with finasteride and nizoral for the first year and see if there's regrowth just from that? If there's no regrowth after a year, then add minoxidil to the mix?

That's definitely a prudent option and I don't understand why more users aren't doing the same, minoxidil is a big commitment which not only doesn't guarantee results but fails to treat the cause of Androgenetic Alopecia. I'm the same way, I want to make sure if I do get regrowth I can attribute it to the Nizoral or S5 cream I'm using. Basically I want to see if I can get results from the least amount of products possible. If you're unsatisfied with your results from finasteride and Nizoral after a year then you can decide if you want to add minoxidil. Personally I'm going to see how I fare for a year and then add alfatradiol if I'm unsatisfied...and if even that doesn't help after a year then I may even consider using minoxidil but bottom line is I don't want to use it unless it's absolutely necessary.
