Can Rogaine alone hurt?

Hi everyone. I am a 30 yr old guy with a receding hair line and a serious family history of hair loss!! UH-OH!

Now that I hit the big 3-OH (30 yrs) I decided I need to do something about my hair loss before it gets too bad.

I have read that Rogaine works by increasing blood flow, thus bringing nutrients to the hair follicles, making them healthier. My question is: If your hair loss is caused by excessive DHT, wouldn't Rogaine just bring more DHT to your follicles via increased blood flow?

So should anyone really use Rogaine by itself, without a DHT blocker?

Thanks!

Its very effective but it only offsets hair loss and doesn't stop it. In your case IMO you need to stop hair loss since you have very little loss.

Rogaine can be used much later.

I thought Rogaine was supposed to be so much better at preventing hairloss as opposed to reversing it. Isn't he better off starting with it now?

to me it seems like minoxidil would be saved for when you need to go "guns blazing" or all out. early on you want to initiate DHT prevention in the bloodstream. this will keep the follicle in tact so you can use rogaine later. start a foundation then work your way up.

Of course, if you read this thread:

It says that Rogaine (FOAM) isn't effective.. so maybe I'd be better off with Propecia for now (easier for me to take 1 pill a day than rubbing goo on my hair line and letting it dry twice a day)

Minoxidil neither prevents or reverses anything. It simply thickens and grows some hair.

Finasteride (propecia) slows it down

i think this is quite the opposite... finasteride is better at preventing hairloss and minoxidil is better at stimulating new growth. that's not to say either product can't be used for both purposes, however.
