Can minoxodil make your hair look dirty, thin or dead even when its not in your hair?

I started using minoxodil about three or four years ago because my hair began to thin in the front.

After a year or two I stopped using it twice daily (Kirkland brand) because it made my hair too greasy
and ugly when I applied it in the morning.

So, for the last year or two I've been using this Kirkland minoxodil at night, and washing it
out in the morning.

My hair throughout the day looks dead, weak, possibly dirty and its hard to style. It used to have a different
consistency. Do you think that using minoxodil at night can affect my hair this way? Even when there is
no minoxodil present throughout the day?

What do you guys think? Would switching to a more expensive product, one that is supposed to condition
the hair and help regrowth like MinNewYork help?

Yes, minoxidil can alter hair, because it contains alcohol and PPG.
But, in your case, i think that washing everyday can be the culprit that makes the hair look dry and "dead", especially if you don't use a very mild shampoo.
The hair needs to be "lubricated" with some oil (produced of course by the sebaceous glands) in order to look "alive". Too frequent washing damages it.
I don;t know, try to apply minoxidil only on the scalp, so very little of it gets in the hair. And so you can wash at 2 or 3 days, the hair will look better.
