Can I take dutasteride every other day? Socks, Bryan, anyone?

Is .5 mg the dosage for Prostate enlargement sufferers as compared to 5 mg of Proscar?

Is there a dosage of Dutasteride for male pattern baldness sufferers?

Because Duprost are gel capsules, you can't cut them. I would think this is overkill as compared to 1mg-5mg of Proscar.

Could I take a .5mg dutasteride pill every other day just the same as you can with finasteride? and wouldn't it make more sense to intake DHT inhibiters like finasteride or dutasteride this way due to the slow bounce back of DHT or however it works?

Why not take it every day? I doubt there are any studies to show it is effective every other day.

Btw, if your asking for an experts opinion, Bryan is fine. However, Socks doesn’t have any genuine know how on these treatments. His advice is the same all the time, recommending propecia and nizoral to everyone and their grandmas.

I'm mid 20's, take it everyday. A genuine hair loss sufferer, who has been there. I’m at 3 months, no sides thus far.

There is no recommended dose of dutasteride for hairloss as it hasnt been approved for hairloss.

However it will be most effective if you take it at the highest possible dose you are comfortable with, I certainly recommend EVERY day as opposed to every second day.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "bounce back" of DHT or why you think this would be less by taking the pill every 2nd day.

Just out of curiousity, what would happen if dutasteride was combined with finasteride, alternating every other day, or perhaps dutasteride in the morning and finasteride in the evening.

I'm only curious as I have several hunderd proscar tabs here and now that I've switched to dutasteride I'm not sure what do do with them...

Even MORE SO than with finasteride. dutasteride's relatively long half-life (although it starts to fall-off at lower doses) allows for flexible dosing schedules: you could certainly take an Avodart capsule every other day. That would be the same as taking 0.25 mg every day, of course, but there's nothing wrong with that dosing schedule.

Taking dutasteride avery other day is NOT aquivalent to taking 0.25 every day!!
I won't give here the pharmacokinetic equation to prove it, but believe me. I am a pharmacist. dutasteride half life is 5 weeks that is, only after 5 weeks the concentration in the body reaches to half. I am not sure this means it's active as a DHT inhibitor for 5 weeks but is certainly means the concentration on the other day is almost identical to the day you take it. I tried to find out what the theraputic concentration in the body is, but couldn't. I think the intention was that the amount of dutasteride will cummulate in the body during many days till it reaches its effective conenctration. That is, I think it was planned to accumulate in the body gradually till you see results. In any case, after a day the amount WON'T fall to half.

Socks, wouldn't this be the same for dutasteride use or don't you know.

I wasn't asking about the half life of dutasteride, but I am more interested in the half life of the drug doing it's job (*what I meant by the "bounce Back" of the DHT). Or how long does .5 mg of dutasteride works at stopping the conversion from T to DHT or whatever.

Umm... Bryan didn't say the dutasteride level would fall to half in a day. He said taking .5 mg every other day would have the same effect as taking .25 mg each day because of the long half life.... After months the amount of dutasteride accumulated would be the same for either dosing schedule.
