Hey. I have lurked here a long time and finally getting around to posting.
I'm 24 year old male diffuser (well, diffuse and possible crown and frontline at the same time..its complicated).
I'm using Nizoral and Propecia (the namebrand from the pharmacy). I am going to add Rogaine foam ASAP as I see lots of members here have good success with it. But I want to know if I can toss Dutas on with the Propecia in gear, too.
I don't mind the cost. I'm willing to pay if I can keep my hair.
Also, I'm not worried about side effects unless it involves internal organ damage, long-term brain probs (like inability to think or focus--something that could hinder my job as a physicist), or death.
Has anyone here in present or passed mixed both to good result? Anyone know of forum members who tried this (so I can search their post)
My History (for curious people)
Basically 2.5 years ago I bought some gel for my hair and realized that I wasn't able to gel it as I used to. It wasn't until about 8 months later I realized it was from thinning (how I was so oblivious I won't know...). At 8 month point I got a prescription for propecia but held out. Why? Well it was only thinning noticably in one particular place then. About 2 inches into my hairline on the left side, there was an area popping up. I was able to cover it up with some styling.
It sounds like that "bald in circles" balding, but I'm almost certain its male pattern baldness now.
I held off the Propecia for another 12 months and then realized I needed it, badly. I think that because I'm a diffuse thinner it was hard to really notice until it got to a dangerous point. Thats the worst part about diffuse thinning--its misleading. I always had that one spot that was more noticeably thin though.
I started on Propecia in May 2006. From then through to September I was using what I suspect to be faulty/expired Propecia. I never realized all the Propecia I bought from the pharmacy had EXPIRED. It had a skunky smell but I never put 2 and 2 together. Oh well. I switched pharmacies and now the propecia I get expires around the 2+ year mark so it is rather "fresh" all things considered.
It still kept thinning, though. And in a diffuse pattern. I generate a LOT of sebum/oils too. If I don't shampoo once a day it gets greasy fast. And it stinks. If I rub my scalp and smell my fingers they stink like something (not shampoo like, either). Conversely, before the propecia and nizoral it was incredibly dry and opposite. I actually had sore scalp where the thinning was occurring the most (that little patch near front)--it was red and sore prior to nizoral and propecia.
I've also noticed lots of thinning around the ears and sideburns. I don't have thyroid problem because I got my blood tested and doctor said it was in good range. I might have to get the other thyroid test done just to make sure. Unfortunately it is likely I have male pattern baldness as the rest of my sides and back of head are rather the same as before I think.
So here I am, still thinning pretty rapidly. I know that you should control your hair before adding rogaine, but I want to toss on the foam and add in dutas if possible.
