A woman I dated told me she thinks her mother will die of pnemonia because it keeps coming back, even though it has not been to severe yet. Not sure if she just wanted empathy or advice, but I set out to find a cure, first telling some doctors should know of something.

Anyway, I thought of DHEA, and told her about it, but also heard there is little research on it and that it can increase the risk of some cancers.

Anyone know more about it? Would it help the immune system, or did I totally put my foot in my mouth?

well, most sources on google say that there is little info on DHEA because it is natural and can't be patented, so companies won't research it, and most research was done is small studies on animals, which have very little DHEA in them, so the results may not predict humans well.

there is little evidence of it's help in humans, though it does help elderly benifit from flu vacinations that they otherwise would not benifit from.

Now I'll look into what lef.org has to say, though they sell the stuff.

the lef.org articles speak with confidence like there are many human studies or something, and list many ways that DHEA helps humans. This contradicts the other stuff I read on google.com.

In conclusion, the DHEA is probably not bad, and if lef.org is right, it can be very good.

You can find plenty of DHEA studies with elderly subjects. I believe DHEA is best for women 40+ y/o taken in low doses. Although, men over 40 might also benefit from having the baseline levels of a 20 y/o.
