Can blow drying with cold air worsen hair loss?

I should start by saying I've been on Propecia for about 5 years now. First it caused me to shed then it almost entirely stopped. I have recently found 10-15 hairs coming out while blow drying on cold and low power. Before it was almost zero. I have also lost some weight, around 2-3 pounds by reducing my calories but I still eat quite a bit of fried food and other junk food with sugar. Could my diet or shampoo be causing it? I use Bumble and Bumble Gentle http://www.bumbleandbumble.com/product/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT57&PRODUCT_ID=199 Could any of these factors have caused the change or is Propecia losing its effect?

Re: Could any of these factors be contributing to my hair loss?

I highly doubt any of those things would cause a shed. I wouldn't worry if I were you. A shed doesn't really mean anything - you could shed 500 hairs a day for a while and it still would not become cosmetically noticeable. Shedding doesn't necessarily correlate with balding - everyone goes through sheds from time to time whether it's a seasonal thing or just to do with the growth cycles of your hair.

I'm interested in your story. Have you completely maintained your hair over the 5 years? What was the extent of your loss 5 years ago compared to now? Have you regrown anything? Have you/do you use anything else like Minoxidil?

Thanks

Re: Could any of these factors be contributing to my hair loss?

Well I noticed I was receding about 5 years ago, went to a derm and got finasteride and minoxidil. I only used minoxidil for a month and got sick of applying it. This was before foam was sold and the liquid is really runny. It is also sticky when it dries, so it gave my hair a greasy appearance. Propecia caused me intense shedding when I first began, but then my hair loss slowed almost to a halt. In the last 2 years I have noticed thinning on the crown, just a bit. You can't really see it but I feel the air on my head and it really irritates me, also from the side my crown looks flatter than it was. I tried nizoral a couple times, and both times quit because it caused me too much of a shed. I didn't know what caused it, if it was a routine shed or if I was having a bad reaction to keto or some chemical. Anyway, there were like 15 hairs coming out in my hands when I washed it out so I stopped. I would say I am maintaining fairly well still, although this recent shed has me concerned. I am considering getting on rogaine foam to battle it more but I am worried about that shed. I am about a norwood 2-3. I have around norwood 3 hairline. The crown's starting to show. The way I style it though you can't see my hairline, and I have pretty good hair. I still worry about it alot though and it causes me ridiculous amounts of stress.

You should be happy man. From the sounds of your post you are exactly where you were 5 years ago (maybe a little worse) which is the idea and pretty much the best possible outcome.

If I were you I'd forget the Nizoral. In the scheme of things it's not going to make much difference seeing as you're already at the peak of finasteride results. Especially if it's causing you to shed. I can't see any benefit for you unless you have dandruff/irritation/inflammation.

If you're up to it, try Minoxidil. Maybe just try it once a day, at night? Using it twice a day proved slightly better results, but not TWICE as good, if that makes sense. It was only marginally better to use it twice a day.
