Buying real finasteride/propecia in the UK

Hi guys,

New to the forum so go easy on me! I am 23 years old and in the last 2 years I have noticed that my hair is seriously thinning up top, my temples have receded quite heavily, and I am getting patchy bald spots on my vertex.

I have recently started taking generic 5% minoxidil (DS Laboratories) and have some nizoral shampoo on the way.

Now I haven't been using minoxidil for long, but I would still like the option to get hold of some real finasteride/propecia in the UK.

I have tried filling out the Boots online consultation form for their hair loss scheme, but even after using various email addresses and responding to the questionnaire differently, I get a 'sorry this service is not suitable for you' message, and it doesn't let me order. Any idea why I was refused prescription?

I have also looked at Superdrug and Lloyds Pharmacy, but they seem more expensive compared to Boots.

So, what is my best option?

Thanks in advanced to everyone who can help me out with this.

I don't know why Boots refused you - did you actually go in store to consult with the pharmacist? Anyway, the Boots scheme is a rip-off IMO.

Thanks for the response,

Nope, I just did the online consultation option. I guess I could walk in and ask them face to face for it.

Have just checked out your link which is very useful so thanks for that.

I guess I will have to go to my GP and ask for a private prescription, however I have heard that these are relatively hard to get and I am not completely balding so my GP may just refuse me based on that.

unfortunately it entirely depends on how knowledgeable, competent and reasonable your GP is. This seems to vary a lot when it comes to male pattern baldness and male pattern baldness treatments.

You sound like the ideal candidate for Finasteride, since it's a preventative not a cure. Little point taking it if you're already half bald. Your Dr should know that

Great, that's good to know.

Thanks for your help, I will look in to seeing my GP about this as soon as possible.
