Buying 5mg Propecia and cutting the pill a good idea???

So I've been on 1mg Propecia evry day for about 6 months now (with minoxidil and nizoral. of course), and noticing it's slowing down my male pattern baldness a little, and i know this takes some time to work.

The thing is, it's really expensive, so I was thinking of getting my hands on some 5mg pills and then cutting them into four, so I would be taking 1.25 mg every day, and I figure I could probably benefit from the extra dosage anyways.

Has anyone ever done this?? I'm wondering if the pills are hard to cut, or if cutting them can somehow damage their efficacy. Also, is there anything I should be aware of by increasing the amount from 1mg to 1.25 mg, such as increased sides (I have none right now)?

Thanks!

It's not just as effective but it is pretty close.
Why?

What are you talking about? 1/4 of Proscar is certainly as effective as Propecia---it's a slightly higher dose so why do you feel that it's not?

Dang, I didnt mean to say its not as effective. The amount of dht reduced from taking 5mg is slightly (not significant) greater than 1.25mg, measured in blood . I cant access the study now, but I believe that they measured the amount of dht in the prostate and the difference was significant. If that applies to eficacy of the drug, I do not know.

Oh ok--you're right I think. I believe there is a study showing 5 mg of finasteride resulted in slightly higher hair counts than 1 mg after 6 months (or maybe a year) but this could also mean that the higher dose just works faster. Either way the difference wasn't too significant but I suppose could be enough to tip the tables in someone's favor.

why not suprising? I dont understand why someone who begins using propecia and have a little bit of a receding hairline start with 1,25 mg! so 1/4
