Hello everyone,

I have been considering a transplant from Bosley medical for some time. The only thing that has been stopping me is all of the horror stories I have read about on the internet. Are these true? Exagerated? Can anyone out ther set the story straight for me? I am 35 years old and a N.W. 2. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

I wouldn't go there. JMO. There are plenty other places that have a much better reputation.

Check out Bradley Wolf or Blaine Lehr. They both have good reputations.

As someone who has been to Bosley to have additional work done on my hairline and to thicken up the front a bit, I can honestly suggest to you that you look elsewhere for a hair transplant. Make that Strongly Urge you to look elsewhere.
To make a long story short,
(1) The Doctor at Bosley who did my transplant put down my first hair transplant Doctor(which is never a good sign).
(2) Then he seemed put off when I rejected his suggestion to lower my hairline to a degree that would look stupid if and when the hair on the sides of my head receded. What can I say?! I was happy with where my original hair transplant Doctor placed my hairline. I guess the Bosley Doctor didn't like anyone questioning his "authority"!
(3) The "assistant's" in the room were all a bunch of giggling Mexican(or something) girls who were too busy talking about their dates, when they should have been paying attention to cutting apart my follicles.

And lastly but not leastly, and the most important one,
(4) After months of waiting for my new hair to grow in, it became painfully obvious to me that my hair after going to Bosley was still the same as it was before I went there. In other words, Thanks for nothing, Bosley Medical(I use that last word loosely)!

I could have handled #'s 1,2,&3 if the transplant would have worked, but it is like nothing grew from that transplant.

not me!

Explore your options.

Research, research, research.

It's your only scalp - please don't gamble with it.

Also, dont talk to any physician's "representatives," "consultants," or otherwise - speak to the ACTUAL PHYSICIAN THAT WILL BE PERFORMING THE PROCEDURE.

Also, when they bring out patient "before/after" pictures make sure that the ones you are seeing were done by the actual physician performing your hair transplant - you would be appalled to know how often the ol' switcheroo is still done.

Best of luck, and whatever you do DONT LET THIS BE AN EMOTIONAL DECISION - BE AS OBJECTIVE AS POSSIBLE.

Thanks to everyone that has replied so far...

Thanks to all of you who have replied. I truly do appreciate it. Not ONE good word on Bosley! I guess for now I will hold off and do more research on finding the "best" place to go. If anyone has any more comments on Bosley or could recommend someone in the Philadelphia area I would appreciate that also. Thanks again for saving me from a possible irreversible mistake. The Bosley "doctor" that will not get to perform my transplant also thanks you all from saving him from the scalping I would have given him if he botched up my head.

Bosley? forget about it. Pick a Dr. from Canada. They have the best suegeons and some bad ones too. do your homework.
Quick and easy is how you bake a cake and not how you make a very important life changing decision. Just get on a plane and spend a day or 2
sight seeing and 2 days for the procedure and the follow-up and hop on a plane and go home. It's all about density and realism.....hairlines are important it's more art than anything else

Bosley and good surgical alternatives

Bosley uses the outdated micro/minigraft technologies that dont look nearly as natural as follicular units. The Follicualar Unit Extraction techniques can harvest donor hair with no scars or at least transplant extra donor hair on top of scar tissue where a zip scar is made at a later date. The follicular units look very real. New Hair Institute in New York, Saratogahair.com in New York both perform this. They have great websites. Im in Tennessee and am removing my old 100 transplants and just intend to stay that way and am not planning on getting more, so this is an unsolicited opinion. I hope you deeply consider what you think your final state of baldness will naturally be however and relate this to your transplant doctor. I personally think if one is going to be completely horshoe bald, they are better off with prevention as much as possible until something better comes along. Bosley is whats known as a transplant mill in the business, like Pierre Amelotte, NuHart, and Elliot Thomas medical group. Follicular units take more time and effort on the surgeons part. Be sure to square away with your Doctor that he will PERSONALLY implant your grafts, not a 20-something assistant with no med school. Good luck,
